Called them and they said engine was rebuilt and has about 150k, chassis may have over 300k, don't know for sure... kinda worrying, but yeah, looks good, Will test drive if I ever plan on it for sure.

Is that handbrake meant to be all 90 degrees!?!?!?

Is Caprice a sketchy dealership? anyone know?

Is this a reasonable price? The exterior and interior looks good especially for a 20 year old car.
They had a previous ad with really nice detailed pics, and the interior didn't look too bad.

300K? 4K is about right if it runs, just give him $3500 and leave

bring a mechanic with you and test drive it.

Either the ebrake hasn't been tightened lately or the car was used for some shooting some porn....

ilvtofu
06-24-2009, 08:58 PM
oh well tightening the e-brake is not a serious issue. I'll be sure to inspect this car if I ever buy it,

Even though it's got like 300k, the engine only has about 150k,

i just wonder sometimes... how do people put so much mileage on cars..

ilvtofu
06-24-2009, 09:23 PM
It's not that much if it's a daily only around 16k a year avg.
It's still a high avg for lower mainland though,

So no one heard of anything fishy with Caprice? (not the car...)

Don't speak if you don't know what you're talking about....

NO, the e-brake is NOT supposed to be like that. It has probably loosened over the years. There's a nut at the back of it that you'll need to tighten, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's got some side to side play. My e-brake went totally vertical in my Z32, and also had about 2 inches of side to side play, from 20 years of use. The side to side play is 2 bolts underneath the centre console. Tighten those, and the ebrake nut and it'll be like brand new.

Woah a few months ago i was there, and i actually spent a good twenty minutes checking out that car.

Interior looked alright, exterior was decent, but can't say the same about the engine bay. Asked the salesperson for the keys, and the car wouldn't start. Realized this car must've been sitting there for quite some time.

However, STAY AWAY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP. The salesperson there kept insisting this BMW i was looking at had no accidents, even though there were obvious welds inside the engine bay here and there. This car also needed a jump to get started as well.

Overall, Caprice doesn't seem any more reputable than a Kingsway dealership. But if the price is right for you, go for it.

ugh, faded yellow isn't my first choice (i know they're all like that), and looks like there's rust on the rear wheel well, fairly low mileage, But a TT is pretty fast...

Respray and body work would set me back a bit though :(
Maybe I'll slap on a cheap fibreglass kit too

Aren't TTs pretty unreliable though?

^thanks i'll keep that in mind, The car has been sitting for a while though, and at that price something must be wrong with it or else it'd have been sold by now

All depends on the up-keep by previous owners. As for the faded paint, as long as there isn't any clear coat failure, just get it detailed and it'll look brand new again. There's another, yellow, automatic, TT for sale around the 7000 range to.

hey, just from my own experience, any used car dealership (ie ONLY used cars, no new ones) that sells a car for a price that's not waaaaay too much for that cart, is sketch. They usually import them from outside so that it's hard to find history...or some in surrey reverse the speedometer...or they get ppl to chop parts.

And they'll never tell u about it...or they'll tell u one thing on the phone and then when you go there it's something totally different with a sales pitch attached.

if the dealer says the car's not local its entire life, i would seriously reconsider.

So just watch out!!

hm... that looks like rise performance's shop car. give them a shout and ask for akira.

but... it's RHD, and i'm not sure if it was built from several donor z's...

ilvtofu

I don't think i want an RHD though, I heard LHDs are better for Z32, might be wrong.

Yeah that dealership was sketchy, they said they bought it at an auction or something, and can't find previous documentation, so they can't tell me how much mileage the chassis actually has

Get me the VIN, and I'll carfax it for you.

No realll difference between RHD, and LHD Z32s, besides the steering wheel is on the other side. I *think* the JDM Z32's have a slightly different turbo size, which made them have a *tiny* bit less horsepower (i'm seeming to think they've got 280whp, instead of 300whp - don't quote me on this though).

The real factor about JDM versus USDM Z32s is the price difference. Keep that in mind if buying a TT.

are all jdm Z32's 2+2?

Dentz

No, however Japan and Europe were the only places you can buy authentic 2+2 twin turbos.

Japan:
2+0 = N.A / Twin Turbo
2+2 = N.A / Twin Turbo
Slicktop = N.A only *I THINK - I'm not 100% sure*

North America:
2+0 = N.A / Twin Turbo
2+2 = N.A ONLY
Slicktop = N.A Only

Any LHD 300zx that's either a 2+2's, or a slicktop, that is listed as a "twin turbos" is a conversion. Period.

Personally I think the N/A with 230HP is plenty,
but the twin-turbo is so tempting, and with used car prices being pretty close...

But reliability wise Turbo < N/A for sure... :(

Go drive an N/A, then a Twin, then come back and say that again.
