Hey so I'm sure a bunch of you have driven down No. 5 Road recently and noticed the new flashing speed limit sign in the school zone at Kingsbridge, what's the deal with that thing? It just flashes a bright white light if you're speeding...?? The odd time it tracks my speed but only if I'm going like 58km/h, most people seem to just ignore it and it just keeps flashing, the odd time I've seen it read like "$220 Fine" and that's it. Is this a photo radar or what??? Anyone.....

that sign is overestimating your speed too.

It's a decoy; I pass by it at least twice a week. I think all the locals just ignore it now as everyone goes 70 there anyways.

first time gone through i was like wtf?! then realize it's a fake.
and yes it reads my speed WAY HIGHER than what i really am going, or my speedo is like off by 10KM/H which is not that likely.

it's meant to scare u by surprising u when ur speeding. It doesn't actually generate a ticket or anything. I kinda freaked out the first time i saw it haha.

It's there cause when ppl go down #5 to ironwood or silvercity, it's really tempting to speed there.

Here's what it does:

1) reads your speed
2) If your over 50kph, it takes a flash >> posts your speed >> flashes "SLOW DOWN 50"

I haven't seen it generate the "220 fine" yet.

So yes, it's a fake.

But be warned, the popo maybe waiting on the other side.

I drive on No 5 road every day. As far as I know, it's just there as a warning. However, as others have posted, sometimes the police hide after the signs and catch people who ignore it. When I drive by, I usually just set the cruise control to 55-60km/h and drive slow since I've seen the RCMP hide there 5-8 times so far.

If you want to see the $220 fine pop out, I believe you have to be over 70km/h.

i've def gone over 70 and didn't get fined...but i think this was when it was new? Or maybe i was going 68? lol..hmmmmm

but damn, cops too eh? I know it's gotten quite cop-heavy on westminster hwy. I guess here too now. Sounds like they see a lotta speeding on richmond roads that aren't highways but are highway-like

it does send data to ICBC. I am 100% sure. It doesn't take photos, just records speeds and times and sends it ot them.

They should just increase thef ucking speed limits to 65kph
