Slippery roads, be careful

Saw some Mazda 3 spin out behind me coming off the Lionsgate southbound today. During rush hour, it's single lane south. Traffic is going slow over the bridge so when it changed back to 2 lanes on Georgia st, I changed into the fast lane and I needed to make the turn onto Pender. The Mazda 3 behind me did the same but for whatever reason, he lost control of the car and spun around a few times. Speed was not a factor because it was rush hour, he must've had some bald tires or hit an oily patch. The stupid thing was that I saw him start to lose it on the first bend so I figure he would slow down
Be careful out there.

Lol, Lower Mainland drivers are hopeless.
weird thing is, i found that it's kinda slippery today too!
Usually I drive pretty fast with my underpower Benz and the driving dynamic is really smooth and turn in's are great... but today, the road's are slick !
I think it's from all the oil fumes that accumulate on the street over the week .... so the rain kinda wash it and the street turns into a slick ring !

Saw an Asian girl in a White Nissan/Infinity SUV, making a left turn onto No.3 Road from sea island way(?) hit the center median and proceed to slip left and right for about 2 seconds, clipping the left median and then finally stabilizing. I passed her later and she looked pretty cute :) gotta be more careful though

Was driving a friend home after ultimate today. 41st heading east to Cartier... intersection of 41st and Granville, beige Corolla stopped very late on Granville north curb lane, was going to turn onto 41st. I nearly honked at him, as I was in the curb lane and it was green (my right of way) but decided not to, as he stopped anyhow. Turned into Cartier heading south, the Corolla's following. Not even a block in and I hear squealing tires behind me.
I check in my rearview and I see the Corolla WEAVING CRAZILY from side to side - eating up the ENTIRE STREET. He/she was also very close to my rear bumper, as I could barely see the headlights in the rear view and that's quite close (about 5 feet or closer). I honk my horn and floor the gas, trying to get away from the crazy person. Scared the crap out of me and my passenger... adrenalin was racing! Quite surprised the Corolla did not clip the parked cars on the roadside.
Geez... I slowed down just enough on 43rd to do a quick left-right-left check, not stopping, and roll through to 45th, accelerating as fast as I can to ~60km/h to gain distance from the crazy driver. Luckily he turned right and I turned left on 45th.
Scary. :( I don't know if he/she was drunk, lost control of the car because of slipperiness or fighting the passenger or something, but that was my driving encounter of the day. :(

It's not mainly bad drivers... Light rain after a dry spell is always bad on the roads coz oil seeps out of the asphalt and stays on the surface.
Heavy rain washes this off, but when it's light, it basically coats the roads with a film of oil/grease.

usually this happens in late august/early september when it rains for the first time after like 3 months
but i remember the last time it rained was just a month ago...so i dunno how there can be so many dried up oil patches that got slippery again.

I rear-ended someone yesterday. It sucked.
it was weird for me too today. was driving like any other day, however today when making a left turn, front right tire lost traction when accelerating.

Overconfidence isn't good. This past snow storm had plenty of AWD's ditched, flipped, up a curb, in a house, etc.... these slick roads wouldn't be any different.

I've never understood this "slippery road" phenomenon when it 1st starts raining that people speak of?
Sure there's a thin layer of oil on the roads, but does traction drop 75% or something as soon as it rains or something? Either that or I just don't drive my car very hard.
I never even notice it on my motorcycle. Road still feels the same.

some people buy cheap tires that don't disperse rain water very well and add that to some oil slick, shitty driver and you have a combo for an accident.
Also people tend to run their tires down to near bald to save money...that also adds to problems...

Motorbike tires, i believe are made of a more sticky compound...therefore stick a bit better than el-cheap 60 dollar michelin tires from crappy tire.
