| Going to SFU in September - Which Campus?
Hey folks,
So in september i'm going to be attending SFU. I'm currently living in Richmond and I have a pretty good feeling i'm going to be driving there. I'm wondering how many other members here in Richmond go to SFU and which campus? And i guess why that particular campus?
I looked at the routes for each campus and it looks like Surrey is closer to Richmond, what do others think?
Also, how much is parking?

You can go to both depending on what classes you take. It's much easier to get to surrey which is why I chose to take some of my classes there. There's also more things to do at surrey if you have a long break (mall + food court).
The main Burnaby campus has a lot more study areas if you're into that kinda thing. It also feels a lot more isolated - there's nothing there. Parking is expensive - I haven't checked recently but I'd guess it's close to $250/sem for a b-lot pass. If you like to be a dangerous man like me, just park and don't pay. I've done this for a year now and only got ticketed once.

balls of steel,
is it $250 for the Surrey parking lot or $250 for the Burnaby parking lot (not sure what b-lot stands for)?
Also, how safe is parking at the mall there and simply walking over?
Thanks

Thanks.

~$250 for b-lot parking at burnaby. B-lot is the parking lot closest to the applied science building. B-lot and G-lot are where most people park. Tower road separates B-lot from G-lot; B-lot is closer to campus while G-lot is across the street (farther from the campus).
SFU surrey is right in the mall - you can park right by the mainfloor and just walk in. There are signs saying that parking is for customers only but I don't think they care much if students park there.

Thanks. | Yeah if you don't have a parking pass you have to enter the lottery. If you win you can purchase a pass. Don't quote me on this, but I think if they don't sell all the parking passes through the lottery, they'll sell the remaining ones directly at the office. If you don't win the lottery and still want a pass, it's best to go check with them (their office is right by the entrance of west mall).
You can also buy a pass off another student but apparently it's illegal and they'll probably ticket you and confiscate the pass if they find out somehow.

Okay well I'll enter that lottery. I'll take a look at it today or tomorrow. And I'm excited for my first year there :run:
Are you at SFU Burnaby this coming year?

actually b-lot passes have upped in price for next semester it's $280 tax-in.
I'll probably stick with BBY campus.

i live in richmond as well and i drive to burnaby campus.
parking for b lot is now $280, and you can't even buy/enter the lottery unless you already have one. however, there is a workaround, and that's to "buy" someone else's pass for that semester you plan on using it, however it is illegal.
you can pay for g lot, which is a good distance further from the campus, but much cheaper.
then there's a temporary lot, $3 all day if you park there before 9am.
transit takes 1.5hrs, it's too painful, i did it all first year.

Too god damn far to walk in the winter time or when it's raining. I'd say a rough estimate of 200m or so? Possibly more, probably more.
