i've flown standby, kinda a pain in the ass cause you don't have priority so you might have to wait for the next flight if you can't get on

Flying stand-by doesn't exist anymore. The term "stand-by" has changed significantly over the years. It generally means you've checked in on a flight that has been oversold in hopes somebody doesn't show up and you get that seat while paying regular price.

+2

flights can be had for dirt cheap aslong as you keep an eye out for seat sales.

Keep checking aircanada and westjet website every couple days. They usually have some sort of sale every week but for different destinations. Also, check redflagdeals for promotion codes. I got flights to Ottawa for $179 one-way through a westjet seat sale + promotion code

I know Air Canada and West Jet don't offer stand-by anymore.

However seeing as I work at Air Canada and can fly anywhere in the world for $50 return, flying stand-by is a huge pain in the ass. Especially when we lose your bags, which happens quite often.

If you've flown Air Canada before, you can get weekly seat sale deals sent to you; some of which arn't advertised publicly.
