Amp and Sub Recommendations

Hey guys,

Just thought I would get some opinions from all of you regarding a few subs that I have done some research on. I'm no audiophile by any means but I want a good sound quality setup.

For amps, I am looking at 2-3 possibilities (there are probably so much more but just wanted to get your opinion on these): Audison LRX4.300 and the ARC Audio 4150XXK. I have also heard good things about the DLS Ultimate series and the Alpine PDX but any suggestions or opinions here would help.

For subs, IF I do get one, I would probably just look at one 10". Any suggestions here? I have read good things about the IDQv3 and the Infinity Perfect series as well.

Looking forward to hearing your opinions!

Well, you know what I recommend.

Here are a few things to consider:
- Is warranty covered locally
- Can the amp be serviced locally (ie: Arc audio)
- Will the power from the 2-channels effectively be able to power your sub

The Infinity Perfect is an 'ok' sub but it has an aging design and there are many others that are better for the price. The IDQ is ok but again, there are many others to consider.

Also, be sure to buy locally so your sub, amp and install are covered under warranty. Another thing is to ensure that the sub enclosure be custom built or at least within reasonable pre-fab specs for the sub.

My suggestion is the DD 1510 and DD S4 4-channel amplifier. 2X 100 and 2X200 will be enough to power your entire system. Come and listen to one of the three that we have in our cars.

The LRx 4.300 is a great amp. I beat the hell out of one for years and it never complained. one of the only amps I havn't ruined in my car audio time.

Great sound, lots of power and they don't break. More expensive than other options, but you get what you pay for.

I ran it as a 3 channel to a set of Focal 6.5 components, and quite a few different subs over it's time. It will easily power any normal 10" sub, especially in a ported enclosure. (I wouldn't put a W7 or Solo baric to it though) You should be able to get warranty work done, as far as I know you can still buy Audison in vancouver, I'm not sure who distributes it in canada anymore though.

Your DD is so impressive dude. Just debating on how much I want to spend though. It might be a little more than I wanted to originally hehe. But I'll definitely keep it in mind for now.

What do you guys think of a McIntosh MCC444?

Hmmm... I'm going to have to contact him to see if it is still available. $300 CAD shipped isn't too bad right? It sounds like it fits the profile I'm looking for. I just want an amp for SQ and not so much for output alone so this sounds good. Thanks for the input!

McIntosh is really nice stuff but again, its really difficult to service locally and I am sure parts for that amp are not cheap or easy to come by.

For $300 you can't go wrong. I got lucky and got one for free to "borrow" for 4 years, but it was a $1200 amp when it came out. seriously though, $300, buy it asap. even though it will be out of warranty, you won't break it. If I was in the market for an amp I'd pay $500 for a good condition 4.300 right now, taking a huge chance on it's condition. they just don't break.

I'm running a basic PPI 5440 right now to my Focals and Polk SR10 in the Genesis and it sounds decent, but my friend wants to trade me my 880PRS for his 4.300 (again) and I am waiting for him to come back to BC so we can do this trade deals. I can't stress anough how good of an amp it is.
Once you get the amp you can take it to soundgood and get Mike to figure the rest of your system out and make it look and sound pretty. Those guys know what's up. I don't deal with anyone else. unless they have cheap audison gear

Best of luck on your high end stereo approach, glad to see someone else willing to buck up for quality!
