My prediction though, it will be pretty easy to score with the new fake shot then deke move... that will be the new easy way to score....

All I want is for them to make the goalies harder to score on to make it more intense.

Nah I didn't try any of the glitch goals. The producer that was with us at the testing session said that they brought in the top 20 guys online and had them do a testing session to show all the scoring exploits and they've covered alot of them but from time to time they may work. I tried a few typical goals that usually work for me and they still work but not as easily. One great thing is the goalie doent go down anymore when you do cross ice passes, god I hated that

They made sure that all the stupid glitch goals from 09 are gone, the only goal you have to worry about in 10 is the one timer cross ice pass which is realistic enough since the goalie can't really go post to post and save it in real life all the time anyways ... but thats easy enough to defend with a Dman in the crease hounding/decking the guy doing the one timer ...

Sept 15 street date for the game, can't wait ...

THE DEMO IS OUT GO DOWNLOAD IT.

Some new controls:

Push Puck - Tap LT
Leg kick (Fake shot) - Press down on RS
One hand deke - move RS to same position as in 09 but you must hold LT as well.
Drop pass - while gliding (not pressing a direction with LS) tap RB OR hold LT and tap RB
Face wash - Y
Board Play - Hold Y near the boards, RT to kick to teammate (if you are on offense) and LB to try to fish it out (if you are another playing on defense coming in to support)

I suggest playing this game on hardcore mode as it gives the most realistic experience

(in hardcore mode, the speed of your pass is determined by how long you press down in RT)

Also, I read that Ranked Matches will be set to Normal mode only which sucks. Hardcore is the way to go.

currently in nhl 09 the game matches up players to your skill level, which is calculated by your win-loss record and what rank players you win or lose to.

in nhl 09 u can set your online versus play to match up with players around your same rank. so if you're just starting out you'll be unranked and listed as 10000.. until u accumulate enough stats to be ranked on the leaderboard. so u can set it to limit your opponents to around wherever you're ranked at..

or u can set it to find players of any rank. i say rank because this doesn't necessarily reflect skill and level of play.

but generally games do get tougher as u play higher-ranked players. but the thing is, currrently u have no idea what rank your opponent is as you are matched up, unless u can recognize their PSN ID.

if u play enough, usually right after the opening faceoff it's easy to gauge your opponent's skill level..

DanHibiki

everything is smoother and it seemed like passes are more difficult now right off the bat i missed a couple up the middle

also the shot control is better and goalies give out rebounds according to where they are hit with the puck

Dang that sucks.

I was playing nhl on my pc and using the d-pad + face buttons only for my controller. It sucked when I played NHL 06 and 07 for the pc because a lot of stuff was built to be designed the joysticks. So when I bought my xbox and NHL 08, I finally made the change. It was tough at first.

My club team got as high as Div 4 but got lazy and sank down to Div 15, cheaters didn't help either and this was pre 2nd patch if I remember correctly ... we played a couple of Div 1 teams and the calibre is totally different than playing people around the Div 15 level ... they are just so damn organized but we did hold our own but ultimately loss more to Div 1 guys ... good losses though not like those from cheaters ...

My club team usually toned down our play until the grace period for disconnecting is over then we rev up and ultimately try to get the other team to quit thru non cheap goals of course ... some teams just suck ...

I'm already tied up with a 360 club but I wouldn't mind joining an RS PS3 club for NHL 10 ...

They've fixed most of the glitch goals but the wrap around one is still there but its not really a glitch to me because wrap around goals to occur in real life and its easily defended. The Demo was pretty good.. What I did to test it out a little longer is if I'm winning, I let them tie it up so it goes to OT and what not.. just to try out the game longer hehe..

But when the simulator gave the CPU a 3-0 lead, i'm not going to lie but I scored 6 goals in that 3rd period (I scored most of it whenever a player rushes into the net for a rebound or a pass then shoot.)...maybe it's the AI or just the difficulty.as I left it to whatever it was on...

hardcore mode is the dumbest shit i've ever seen. how is it realistic to have to charge a pass?

also, the after the whistle stuff is a waste of time that adds nothing to the gameplay. i bet every online game is going to end up with somebody starting a scrum after every single whistle.

i really wish they would remove some of the dumb animations too. you know the ones where you try to body check someone but YOUR guy ends up doing the stupid seizure animation instead. it looks so dumb when you start the after whistle scrums and it's basically a couple of guys walking/bouncing off each other with that animation.

Your XBOX just gets banned. With the prices of them so low nowadays, it's not too big of a loss since most people only get banned once in a blue moon. You can only really get banned if you play the wrong version like all those people that played the test version of Halo 3 ODST.

Been playing quite a bit yesterday and today, and here are some things I noticed.

- They need to change the button function for tying up people on the boards. When you're not close enough to tie them down, you end up taking an unsportsmanlike penalty for face-washing if they don't fight you. They should change it so instead of initiating a fight, you hook instead. There are also too many penalties from tripping and high sticks, and lots of penalty shots stem from them.

- For ranked one-on-one, the goalie falls down way too often on passes/one-timers. A guy scored two goals on me from passing just outside the left faceoff circle down to the right side of Luongo, and Luongo fell down everytime. I'm sure this doesn't happen on the higher difficulties, so EA should change the gameplay mode. Be ready to see everyone online doing one-timers all the time.

- Passing is a lot harder in this game, you need lots of practice. I prefer the older style of passing, but the new style adds more unpredictability and realism.

Alright...here we go guys.

Bugs
Let's get the bad news out of the way first. I'm not sure if this game was rushed onto shelves without enough time for testing, but there are a ton of bugs that simply should have been caught.

* Simming ahead several years in franchise mode can lead to unrealistic results. For example, I simmed ahead to 2011, and the game listed one of the teams as playing in "Phoenix".

* In Front Office mode, the "fire general manager" option is permanently greyed out for the New York Rangers.

* Somebody at EA needs to seriously prune the roster file to clear out guys who haven't even been in skates for years. This year's game still has guys like Jason Allison and Theo Fleury kicking around.

* While the post-whistle scrums are a nice addition, they don't feel realistic because announcer Jim Hughson fails to break into an overwrought lecture about how terrible they are.

* The financial AI is just terrible. Teams like Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia kept signing players to contracts that would clearly ruin their long-term salary cap situation.

* AI-controlled teams occasionally make roster moves they'd never make in real life. For example, in one sim I noticed the Leafs had signed another team's RFA, which of course is ridiculous since Brian Burke hates when teams do that.

* While experimenting with the GM mode, I attempted to trade a star player to Edmonton. The deal was accepted, but when I checked the Oilers roster immediately afterwards, the star player was there.

Cheats
What major video game release these days doesn't come with a few cheats and easter eggs? Sure enough, NHL 2010 has its share.

* When you're prompted to enter your name on the opening screen, type in "Jim Balsillie" to unlock an extended slideshow of Gary Bettman giving you the finger.

* If you manage to win the Stanley Cup, hit "exit" before the handshake line finishes. When you enter the off-season, the game's musical soundtrack will be replaced by the sound of Red Wings fans crying. (Note: there is apparently no undo for this feature.)

* Enter your name as "Howard Berger" on the opening screen, and then sim a season. All 82 of your games will be scheduled during the month of November.

* Inspired by the legendary NBA Jam series, NHL 10 includes a hilarious "tiny mode" in which all the regular players on a team are comically shrunk down to a fraction of their normal size. To enable this mode, go to the Team Select screen and choose "Montreal Canadiens".

New features
Now for the good stuff. As fans have come to expect, this year's version comes packed with new and enhanced features.

* The much-hyped "first person fighting" mode is every bit as good as advertised. When you throw a perfectly timed uppercut that connects with your unsuspecting opponent's face, you can actually see the blood splatter onto the cab's dashboard.

* The game includes an interesting new feature called "Ask Burkie". You can type in any hockey question, and a simulated Brian Burke will provide an answer. Unfortunately, due to an apparent programming error the screen lacks an "exit" button, and Burke just keeps talking and talking non-stop. Even removing the CD and unplugging the system doesn't help. I eventually had to burn my Xbox and bury the ashes in the backyard to get him to be quiet.

* In a neat bit of crossover promotion, the game will check your hard drive for any Resident Evil saved game files. If it finds any, it will replace the final zombie boss with Chris Chelios.

* The "Be A Player" mode is super realistic. In my first game against Toronto I lightly nudged one of the Leafs' skill players, and the game immediately cut to a full-motion video montage of my funeral.

* The all new board play is great fun. You can get a puck to an open teammate by using the new "kick-pass" button. In addition, when controlling Martin Havlat you can also use the "kick-groin" button.

* Players can now snatch a puck out of the air with their glove hand (note: feature does not apply to Andrew Raycroft).

* Finally, the game features an intriguing new mode in which two teams can play each other up to seven consecutive times, with the first team to win four games advancing on to play a different team. As a Leaf fan I thought this was really unqiue and creative, and hope the real NHL implements something similar in the future.

Got it at midnight launch @ EB in Nanaimo ... No one there :(

LOL, but seriously, NHL 10 fucking rocks. My buddies and I did a battle for the cup on All-Star + Hardcore against the Rangers ('94 Canucks jerseys FTW) and it's just leaps and bounds better than '09. The first game, we were awful because we kept trying to throw hits and injuring ourselves as well as getting into post whistle scrums and going to the penalty box (at one point, we had Hordichuk playing w/ the Sedins because he had about 6 forwards either injured or in the box). Somehow won that game 3-2. Once we smartened up (about halfway through Game 2 when we were losing), we rocked them. I love the new passing system; banking passes off the boards makes breakouts that much easier and boardplay/intimidation is awesome.

Very satisfying to sweep the Rangers in the Stanley Cup Finals ...

Guys. It's glitch. When you can score almost at will with that, it's a glitch.

In 09 there was the curve shot glitch, wrap around glitch, and goal line 5-hole glitch.

I personally haven't seen any glitchers online yet but I did notice a few people try the wraparounds often.

And yes, you could always just park a dman BEHIND THE FUCKING NET BECAUSE THATS OBVIOUSLY SO FUN AND REALISTIC...but that's not the point. This was a concern that I heard EA fixed but didn't.

Don't worry about the wraparound glitch, it doesn't work in EASHL (which is the most important game mode to me) since it's on hardcore mode.

The only reason a bunch of the wraparounds work in one-on-one is because the game mode is set to fucking pro or some shit, seriously. One timers make the goalies fall over a lot.

I've only played club games and I did notice that its a bit slower at the moment but that's cause I got low stats at the moment and I don't want to cheap out and buy the unlockable boosts ... but in some games we play against some top teams they are frickin fast ...

I did buck up and buy upgrades for my guy, I have the Stick, Gloves, Skates and helmet all unlocked with 3 slots each and every slot is full +5 stats......

I don't like the fight challenge for 2 reasons

1)when u challenge a guy to a fight while the play is going on, you get an automatic roughing/unsportsmanlike penalty. Why???? in NHL players skate by each other and trash talk all the time there doesn't have to be a penalty unless you do it too much.

So if you get challenge, just don't fight and back you got yourself a pp.

Pretty much the only safe time to challenge is between whistles.

2) I don't like how you can do it to anyone, ie. a guy on a breakaway...BAM. he stops because the guy challenged him

here's an idea...how about they make it impossible to score, so all you guys can stop whining? :p

If somebody keeps doing the same move on you, then you have nobody to blame but yourself. Adapt your defensive strategy. Everybody has a different style of offense, and they will obviously stick to what works. When i play online, i play to win....not to make the opponent happy by not scoring. If my opponent is giving me a paved lane through the front of net, I will damn well take it.

Here are some examples of the whiners I experience online:
- When i score a slap shop from the point, it's called a "cheese goal"
- When i score a wrap-around, it's called an "exploit"
- When i cycle and pass out front for a one-timer, it's called a "exploiting one-timersl"
- When i score on a breakaway, it's called "camping"
the list goes on and is never ending...nobody likes being scored against, but whining about it isn't going to stop them from scoring on you.

If you keep letting your opponent skate across the crease, then there are serious issues with your defense. If you keep letting your opponent nail one-timers from one side of the net to the other, then your defense has issues. If you let somebody constantly score wrap-arounds, then your defense has issues.

Over half the people i play against always chase the puck, and that's where they get in trouble. Watch a real NHL game...it's all about positional defense...you rarely see a D-man rush the guy with the puck the moment they cross the blue line. Stick to the passing lanes and try to read the play.

if you don't understand what i'm trying to say in my post, then congratulations...you're an official punching bag for the better players to pad their stats.

Couldn't agree more. There is no such thing as a "glitch goal" ie : point skates in one direction & shoot other??? AKA moving goalie from side to side to pick a corner/pocket. Makes me sick, and every person who says its a glitch goal or some lame excuse like that doesnt understand the first thing about hockey to begin with.

Great comment & keep up the good work ea. game is great! love it!

ps: all the people who thing glitch goals, rot like hell and next time i wanna hear your replies is when I herd you're being put 6ft deep.

Dude. the curve shot and wrap around ARE glitch goals. Even the EA producers admitted it.

When you can score with the same move 10/10 tries, it's a glitch goal, something the developers did not intend on.

You wanna talk about understanding hockey. Do you think you can do that exact same move 10/10 in real life??

Didn't think so.

Now I'm not backing up the people who whine and call EVERYTHING a glitch goal but I am backing the fact there they do exist, and a lot of people like to exploit the fuck out of them.

as stated before, if its a glitch, there are ways to prevented by playing a more defensive style.

MR_BIGGS
09-23-2009, 10:00 AM
here's an idea...how about they make it impossible to score, so all you guys can stop whining?

My bread and butter are one timers, and they always have been. They seem to work and I like to use the point men a lot as well for deflections. When I play someone who collapse their dmen and plug up the middle, I have to change my strategy...That is one NHL is about, you gotta change ur strategy to match the person ur playing..

Because it's realistic in hockey to park a dman behind the net the entire game right?

The point is not being able to stop them, I can do that for the most part. The point is it's frustrating playing the game like that. I wanna play a hockey game like a hockey game.

I'm glad there's board play now though. It makes it easier to stop those who try wrap-arounds.

ya but in 09 most of the players do. especially towards the end of the year it was getting really frustrating.

But so far in NHL 10 I'm not noticing much glitching. I notice attemps but they aren't working so far so that's good.

I think one of my problems is that I do play the game too realistically. That's probably why I'll never be a top100 player.

I think I'm with you on this one haha.. I'm not a video game geek so I don't really care about records and what not.. If I play someone who plays like a "real hockey" game.. I add them up and play them again...

I'd rather do that than play someone wanting to do the same thing over and over and over again......sure, i can stop them but it is annoying more than fun.. and I play the game to have fun and kill some time

haha anyways.

The way I see it.. If a person glitches on you, you glitch back. If they play normally, you play normally. That's how I played 09, and I was top 50.

I played with the mindset that I wanted to be in the top 100, so my approach is a little different, so I could why some people might just wanna play fair the whole time or leave when they play against a glitcher.

does glitch mean if you always get scored on? even if its the same way over and over again?...how about trying to play differently? or copy them?

point is that you will need to play differently at times...if you're always getting scored on a wrap around, control a defenceman and park him in front of the net and poke check the guy if he tries that...getting scored on a slap shot too much? how about controlling the player closest to the puck and dive? getting scored when you play the goalie? how about letting the computer control it automatically :D

I havent picked up nhl 10, but in 09 I've played a lot of games. I'd let one glitch goal go, if i see the player keep going for it then I bust out my strategy.

Whenever you get the puck, flip it out. Doesn't matter where on the ice just flip it out. And never skip a cutscene. Who cares if you have 5 guys in the penalty box. Usually they end up quitting.

Hold the block pass button down and then swing the skill stick side to side. Altho it only seems to move depending on the direction you end up laying down or something cause it doesn't always move.

Ok I've played about 30+ online games now and I've got to say that this game isn't as "fun" as 09. Now before you all jump on me, my record in 09 was 525-215-50 something - I don't glitch or use cheese goals and I try to play like real hockey players (positional play).

With NHL 10, everything seems clumsy and slow to react - I've had many goals scored on me because of really bad delay between the time I press a button until the player acutally DOES something. Is it more realistic? Probably. but it's defintely not as "fun" as 09.

I dunno... it's good, but not THAT good. My thumbs are usually sore after a few online games because the controls are just so damn slow and clumsy....

I thought this is just a result of lag, although I haven't played any offline games yet. Lag appears to be worse this year simply because they removed the latency indicators from online match matching, so you can't tell if the host is laggy or not.

Are we talking about your player you use during club games, easiest way is to play games to unlock your cards to get attribute points, also unlocking the equipment that has attribute slots and also unlocking the +1, +3, +5 to add on to the equipment, also there are boost packs that you can unlock that kinda boosts a bunch of your stats as well ... all of those things that you can unlock can be bought as well thru MS points or PSN money ...

Actually if you look at each locked item, it tells you what you need to unlock it, some stuff you can do offline and some needs to be done online

Easy way to get some of the offline stuff, start a BAP player (depending on which equipment you want to unlock be that kind of player), set to PRO level and enter the draft, play the prospects game and try to score an A overall that should unlock some stuff already ... a trick to get some of the stuff you need to play 40+ games a season, Sim every game and intervene at the last 5 mins of the game and play it till end, that will count as a game played so you don't need to play every game full ... and just make sure you get the proper stuff to unlock the stuff you want ... it does take some time ... or you can just use money and buy the unlock for the stuff you really want ... I heard the Offensive Defensemen Booster Pack is decent for people who have no stats ... and of course you need your cards online by playing games online to get your attribute points per unlocked card too

jlo mein
10-09-2009, 04:16 AM
also there are boost packs that you can unlock that kinda boosts a bunch of your stats as well ...

Be warned that the boost packs restrict you from several things. First, if you equip a boost pack you cannot add more boosts by individually choosing ones for skates/gloves/stick, however you may still equip a helmet and use individual boosts for it. Second, any additional attributes you add to your skater through experience points do not count with a boost pack equipped. Basically the boost packs were designed as a simple add on for new users so they could compete with experienced players who have individually upgraded all of their equipment and attributes.

One complaint I have is that you cannot view what each different boost pack upgrades until you buy/unlock it. I got the Power Forward one and it kinda sucks.

BTW has anyone noticed that some NHL players are ridiculously oblivious to hits? I have a checking attribute of 85 and tried throwing three hip checks onto Derek Boogaard and each time he was unphased and my skater acted as if he was hit and fell down. Any other skater I throw that kind of hit onto results in them being crushed onto the ice and sometimes an injury.

Thanks for clearing that up, I knew it was one of those either/or things but I guess I didn't make that too clear on my post ... Like I said above though, the Offensive Dmen boost pack is good for starters with no stats to at least compete with the people who have been playing for a bit already, its got decent offensive stats but once you start unlocking stuff, going that way is better ...

* Although our goalies are much improved in NHL 10, there was an exploit when shooting from below the face-off circle that resulted in a goal more often than not. The goalies are now tuned to better handle shots from this area.

Increased speed of passes with Manual passing on.

* This year we added Hardcore Passing (manual passing) that gave you total control of your pass speed and direction. Overall, the new passing was well received but the consensus was that you should be able to pass the puck harder and that the bottom-end speed was too slow. We've increased the bottom-end speed so the passes are crisper and also increased the top-end slightly as well.

Reduced the ability to boardplay players who are far away from you.

* It was a little unrealistic being able to 'suck' a player into boardplay as he was skating away from you so we've made it much harder to pin a player that is skating away. The further he is from you, the less likely you'll be able to boardplay him.

Tuning of trade logic.

* Too many superstars were being offered up for trades so we've dialed this back along with reducing how often players are repeatedly offered up for trade.

Added the ability for a user to apply boost slots to authentic helmets.

* We've added the ability to apply boost slots to an authentic helmet so users can get the benefit of the boosts without having to wear a helmet with a design on it.

Here are some of the other main fixes that will be in the Title Update:

* Fixed the bug that would make a player sometimes exit pass blocking (L1/LT) when they got close to their goalie.
* Fixed the bug that would prevent offline Be a Pro player from getting ice-time in some situations.
* Fixed a crash that could happen on delayed penalty shots.
* Improved logic for how fighting affects teamplay scores in Be a Pro.
* Prevent L1/LT from allowing players to bypass stumble animations.
* Improvements to goalies to reduce 5-hole goals in some contexts.
* Tuned thresholds for injuries from hard shots.
* Added the ability to escape a prefight circle by pressing L2/LB.
* Fixed the bug that made it possible to "shoot" a puck slowly out of the one-handed animation such that nobody could pick it up.
* Improved goalie aggressiveness when poking the puck on cross-crease passes.
* Improved the ability of defencemen are able to do puck pickups behind them to help defend cross-crease passes.
* Reduced the ability to stuff the puck through the goalie by running into him without shooting (most common on wraparounds and reaching puck pickups).
* Reduced accidental interference in front of net.
* Fixed the offline Be a Pro line-change bug where the player is stuck at the bench.
* Prevent slap passes from being deflected at large angles.
* Fixed the bug where the goalie does not react to a shot if he's banging his stick on the ice to signal the end of a penalty.
* Fixed the bug that makes flip dumps to the middle of the offensive zone go over the glass frequently.
* Fixed the bug that makes CPU center win draws to the the same side all of the time.
* Fixed the bug in the stat tracking of passing.
* Prevent accidental saucer passes after receiving the puck while trying to poke check (because both actions are on R1/RT).
* Tuning to reduce occurrence of tripping penalties when the player being tripped is stationary or moving slowly.
* Tuning to game logic to make it a little easier to stay up on the NHL team during 4-game trial in BAP.
* Many other changes to improve our ability to refine the gameplay tuning with via tuner sets."

yeah I dunno how xbox games have almost to no lag but i've yet to play a ps3 game online that doesnt have any lag. WTF?

Its kind of a question I asked in the PS3 thread, does anyone know the difference between PSN and XBL? Are XBL servers just a lot better or something? As well are you able to play someone cross platform?

Does the new patch have any roster updates?

They could be better because the xbox users are paying for it and we get ours for free. I went onto the ea site and commented on the nhl 10 patch. Nah no roster update. They need to fix these things asap.

1. Fix the damn lag
2. When you're on a 2 on 1. The defending player can smoke the guy that will receive the 1 timer pass and not get a penalty. Alot of people abuse this online
3. Those soft shots at the goalie that leaves a wild open rebound that for some reason your dman can't get and the attacking player always gets and scores on
4. When there's a penalty shot, sometimes the view will change so the other side of the ice and you're looking at your goalie 200 feet away.
5. For players who use classic controls. L1 and square is to stick lift. Sometimes if doesnt stick lift and instead instigates a fight since L1 is used for that.

FOR ps3:

1)How do you pull the goalie without pausing?

2)How do you double team somebody that is being a douchebag and skating in circles and defending their 1 goal lead for 40 minutes?

Holy fuck! Just finished a rank team match game online that went over 1.2 hours
with like 8 over times.

Trying to get my rank to all A's on my skater card online. Does any one know If I get A online using my skater card but playing goalie, will those A's count towards his stats?

Skater and goalie are separate categories.

This game is crap compared to Nhl09. One reason, people just fucking laying down or bending down in front of their net everytime you approach the net. It's getting stupid and way too many people are doing it.
