my gf has a really small desk and her XP2200-M 12" laptop is just too old to run youtube smoothly.

There are 3 choices in mind...
1) Benq n91 -> all-in-on PC....18.5", AMD verison atom cpu, no dvd ($540)
2) ITX case (either fitting a e5200 or atom dualcore 330) + 19" monitor ($420)
3) A $650 laptop

Some cheaper laptop comes with Core Duo CPU...and some with C2D.
what's the pros and cons running a Core Duo/C2D?

let's say a 2.0ghz Core Duo....will I notice any difference with 2.0ghz C2D?

I'd say get a laptop or a netbook. Check out the Sony Vaio W, girls love Sony laptops.

she doesn't want a netbook, she's not those asian girls who carry a flashy laptop around.

I showed her MSI VR440, but it is T4200 2.0ghz Core Duo

They don't sell Core Duo anymore, those are like 3 years old or more. What you are looking at is a new Dual Core Pentium using Penryn core. They are pretty much the same as a Penryn Core 2 Duo Mobile, but with less cache and no virtualization hardware.

I don't think there's any penryn core laptop that is under $650 =/

It's Penryn. Forget about names like "Core 2 Duo" or "Pentium". Those are just names. The core of the chips are what matters. And in this case, it's a 45nm Penryn core. The only thing slowing it down is the smaller cache. But your GF won't notice that.

Core Duo = Pentium M Dual Core = Yonah which is discontinued years ago

Pentium Duo Core = Core 2 Duo = Penryn with Less cache

Psst. NCIX sale - Lenovo Thinkpad G530 laptop. 500CAD, Intel T4200 (Penryn) and fairly decent specs for light use.

holy fuck...I just checked out the MSI VR440 at the Golden Mall in HK. It looks great in person.

14.1" T4200

$3550 for the basic one with 160gb 2gb ram ,
$3750 add geforce 8200, with vista home
$3990 add geforece8200, 320gb and no OS.

better than getting those slow nettops
