I watch the opposing traffic lights + pedestrian signals, especially if I'm at the front of the lane. I like to be prepared to go immediately on green or setup a hill start just prior if I'm on an incline. I find inattentive drivers at the front of a lane annoying when there is a whole train of cars following.

If downtown, same as above with a bit of people and car watching thrown into the mix.
