After years of just passing by the lake every time I go out to the west coast, I finally stopped for a dip there yesterday on the way back from Port Alberni. My God was it ever nice. Easily the cleanest water I've swam in for a while, and soooo refreshing.
You should go!

Yeah it is cold, wonder if it's really any colder than all the rivers I've been swimming in lately or Horne Lake though? If you climb to the top of the ridge opposite the highway at Cameron Lake you can see Horne Lake on one side and Cameron on the other. They're connected underground.
I did the sunset canoe thing at Horne Lake on Saturday with a date. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The instructor/guide we had was fantastic! A charismatic spelunker and mountaineer that had lots to tell about the area and fun things you could do with canoes.
Aside from canoeing and checking out beavers, nearby are trail rides, the Horne Lake caves, Spider Lake, Illusion Lake, and Coombs Market etc in between depending on your route.
The kicker for me was the sunset canoe thing which was for a couple hours with your canoe and guide dude was $13 per person! LOL
