i know it coulda went in travel forum, but more traffic here for a quick response.
i wanna buy some alcohol and ciggs at the duty free, but i don't wanna stay for long.
i'm planning to go down to say Bellis Fair for a few hours.
my question is, how long do i have to be in the states for, for the duty free to be valid.
i wanna get a bottle of silver patron for $40, as opposed to $120 at the BC liqour store.
unless any of you guys know where i can get REAL silver patron in the lowermainland for a decent price.
thanks for any serious responses.

I think you have to be down for at least 48 hours. Not 100% sure on that though.

the limit depends on how long you are down there for. 24 hours is a certain amount, 48 hours is like $400, etc.
Google it
EDIT: and by limit I mean limit before you pay tax, etc

For a single day, no way they will let you off without charging you taxes and duties with booze and cigs.

i don't wanna stay for more than 4-5 hours in the states.
so if i get a bottle of patron for $40, how much do i get taxed then?
i just wanna see if it's worthwhile
went cross the border 2 months ago, got myself 4 cartons of smokes... at average 15 bucks per carton
the lady told me asked me if i stayed for 48 hrs, and asked me how many people were in the vehicle..
I told her just me and my friend, she said we can only carry 2 cartons and if we get busted mostly likely they will A) confiscated B) tax 100% on top...not to mention you will get a record on the computer
I thought about it and decided to go big or go home.. coz even with the 100% tax on top, it is still cheaper : )
cheap chinese ftw

So did you get away with it?
For your personal exemption limits, look under the section "What can I bring back with me?":

48 hours.
If you buy it and bring it before then, you can get taxed 300% if you're lucky, confiscated, or you can be asked to go inside, and then you wont walk straight for a while.

yea, found all the information i needed, thanks guys.
i was just wondering if it was more worthwhile to drive down to the states instead of just going to liqour depot and payin $120 for a bottle
think i'll just go to liqour depot and pay for the $70 "convenience fee"
fuck waiting in line at the border
