Anybody buy 1 recently or know anything about them? Tried doing some research on google but thought I would gather some real opinions.

Budget would be around $1000ish. Size would be something around 19 cubic feet.

Yeah, check out the two places I mentioned. It's a lot cheaper than trail / futureshop etc. It's even cheaper if you know someone with an account there.

Sears and FS actually have some decent deals sometimes (depending on the sale at the time). I think it was coast, that has the huge scratch and dent section at the back so you could sometimes find some gems back there.

$1,000 for a full sized fridge? If with taxes included expect mediocre stuff. I paid $700 for my 10cu fridge and it's dead after a couple of years (Danby by the way). Our family's 25yr old fridge downstairs works as good as our 5yr old one upstairs, minus the efficiency.

And yes, check out those scratch and dent sales around town, that's where builders go For your price range, check out Kenmore, Hotpoint or G.E.

LG is pretty good. One of the quietest fridges out there. I think like Samsung, they are made in Korea.

Things to consider:

reliability (consumer reports)
compressor and overall noise
energy rating (all appliances have to have a tag with all the info - read carefully)
parts availability
handling of servicing / warranty (in home servicing at no cost, etc.)
door seals ('cause they're the first things to go)

I recently bought 2 fridges from Future Shop. Nobody could match, let alone beat, the price. That's right. The Brick couldn't match it. So much for their claim on matching prices.

Search the Internet for features, then compare models that are close in price. Narrow the choices down, then do some hunting for good prices.

Check Harvey's in Vancouver. Trail Appliances is good to see what's out there - good selection. The Brick (I'm not a fan of that place). The Bay and Sears have pretty good promotions on at times. Find out who builds their fridges, though. It's different for all their home brand models. I've read that anything made by Amana or is related to the Amana line is pretty much ghetto. GE is nowhere near what they used to be. The appliance world changes so fast. One company buys out another and then gets bought out by someone else. One model is made by so and so first half of the year, then is made by some other company. The only consistent brand names are LG and Samsung these days.

As a side note, Future Shop guys are very flexible with their prices. I cannot remember his name, but there's this one young, EI kid at the Metrotown location who really knows his stuff. I'm sure Labour Day Sale is going to be a good time to buy from Future Shop.

I agree with you. Their phones suck to the bone. Refrigerators are a little different, though. I think they're good because of all the experience they have in manufacturing those automatic high tech Kim Chi machines........

What type of fridge are you looking for? How do you want the doors? Side by side or freezer on top, fridge on the bottom vise versa. Need an ice maker or not? Just head to Sears, they usually do those don't pay for 3 months whatever deals. Don't forget to factor in delivery charges. Plus if you're throwing your fridge away, give BC hydro a call. They will give you 20 dollars back for your old fridge.

You'd be surprised at how much sales people at places like the Brick know about their products. My wife did the research when we were looking around for fridges and most of the salespeople had to be correctted for giving wrong info. It was kind of cool to see them squirm. One Brick sales guy, told my wife she was dead wrong and she challenged him to go onto the manufacturer's web site to check it out. Love it when salespeople get busted for bullshitting. RS may not be a good place to get info, but there are a lot of good sites out there - the power of the Internet.

Theres a place in chillawack that has discounted fridges. I know it sounds kinda used and such but you can get some really good deals. We bought a brand new stainless steel fridge for much cheaper because it was returned from having a little scratch on the handle during its delivery to the original buyer.

Again, do you want one that is quiet and very efficient? The best money can buy? Or are you on a budget?

I bought a Viking dishwasher and it is amazing. I had an Asko before that, that lasted over 16 years. Still going, I guess (sold the house and moved). The Asko was the best you could buy back then. Whisper quiet and did the job so well we were thinking of taking it with us. Miele brand is also good, when it comes to dishwashers and washers.

My wife wanted one of those commercial dishwashers, but it was waaaayyy too expensive. and would have been a bitch to install in the new house, because the cabinets were already installed.

EDIT: Just wanted to mention that no one brand or line has the best appliances. For example, Viking makes awesome stoves and dishwashers, but their fridges are not on par with other brands. These companies often get other manufacturers to make certain applicances that they are not capable of making. This is done because a lot of people like to have their appliances match each other in the kitchen. Plus, they can offer a one price for all, set.

Hmmmm.......... I've had mine only for about four months. Not a single problem yet. I hope yours was just an exception - a lemon. What part(s) failed? Did they come and repair it for free (in house)?

Yes, there are some really good deals to be had on scratch and dent models. However, if the dent is of significant size or in the wrong spot, it can lead to problems later on. And, when they sayit is "as is", it scares me. Most major appliance dealers have a branch or location that deals with scratch and dents. I went to the Trail one in Richmond and there were some really good buys, but they were all sold. I guess you have to go there every few days and be there at the right time. I saw this gorgeous commercial type cooler - all glass and custom made (reminded me of that Heineken commercial). The buyer backed out because it wouldn't fit or something stupid like that. Of course, it was sold as soon as it arrived at the clearance centre. It was so low, even I could have afforded it. According to the sales guy, the people who ordered it were loaded and didn't care if they lost their deposit or whatever.
