ummm I think we only have the regular old hornets. only the US has superhornets.
I could be wrong.

only US navy has Superhornet, they are about 20-30% large in size, air intakes look different. they have hard corners as oppose to curved ones on cf-18, and if any of these jets go supersonic, near the city , ur windows will shatter!

they can go close to breaking supersonic in city limits, thats when u see the funnel cloud around the fuselage of the plane.

That is correct. The picture above also shows circular air intakes and a slimmer fuselage, indicating a F/A-18A/B/C/D Hornet, not a F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.

Also, US military fighter jet aircraft are not permitted to go to mach speeds over North America during peacetime (except for some designated areas (http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/planes/q0060b.shtml)). I assume the same rule applies to Canadian aircraft. So what people are hearing is the still incredibly loud sound of sub-mach speed jet aircraft flying at low altitude.

Yup, it's NORAD;

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - You may notice military planes overhead Wednesday and Thursday as NORAD spends some time in the sky in preparation for the 2010 Games. NORAD is conducting air security exercises in the skies over B.C and Washington State.

Restrictions during the Games include prohibitions on hot air balloons and model aircraft, with some regional airlines are being told to reroute their flights so passengers can be given adequate security screening. Securing the airspace above the 2010 Games requires both Canadian and U.S. efforts as the restricted zones cross the border. Military planes could be escorting other planes into and out of airports.

Try doing something on the flight deck and hearing these guys take off and land every 30 mins.

ATTENTION REVSCENE!

As you may have seen, these fighter jets have been out and about recently, flying all over the GVA.

You may think that these fighter jets are doing practice runs for the olympics, or an air show. However, you are all wrong.

If you watched the news or follow up with astronomy, you'll know that there has been a meteor shower going on recently. I'd like to inform you all that we are all in grave danger from this seemingly harmless meteor shower, as the meteors are large enough to actually hit the ground and cause catastrophic damage.

The jet fighters you see flying around the GVA have been commissioned by our province in an effort to protect us by blasting the meteors into smaller pieces so they can fully burn up before they hit the ground.

http://thetyee.cachefly.net/Views/2005/04/20/campbell0118-cuts.jpg
Emergency crews have received a large volume of emergency phone calls regarding the recent string of meteor impacts. Although I cannot comment on the amount of damage landed meteors have caused, I'd like everyone to know that we're doing the best we can to protect our citizens.

Were you driving on the road recently and heard something that sounded like a random rock hitting your car? That's not rocks being flung out of tires from other peoples cars, that's the sound of blasted meteor debris sprinkling on your car. The canadian air force has been blasting these meteors at high altitude for almost a week now.

(Here's a picture of astroids. They're called astroids when they're in space, but when they start falling down on the earth they're called meteor's. The ones that hit the ground and remain intact are called meteorites. These enormously large boulders of space rock are falling down all over north-west america right now. If you see one heading towards you, turn around and run for cover)

If anyone watched the news recently, officials have advised that everyone stay indoors if possible.

lvl2 reserved space? you mean the gated fenced area? That's for the Aberdeen residence, it's not full because the residence is not full...

It's fun though seeing c lais following residences in and no way to get out unless someone from residence opens the gate. :haha:

these babies are CF-18s. They look similar to F/A-18s, but they DO have their differences.

I was doing summer training at CFB-Comox one year, and had the opportunity to see 3 of these guys take off and land in formation... It's amazing when you are standing on the apron while these guys punch it down the runway
