UBC Chinese Heritage VS non heritage

So i went in for a placement interview to see what chinese course I will be put into, they put me in heritage just because I am chinese? I am a cbc, cant read or write a word of chinese, I dont speak mandarin at all and I can only understand the basics of all basics. Anyways I am just wondering what the difference in difficulty is between beginner chinese heritage vs non heritage? The student who was interviewed beside was speaking fluent mandarin to the interviewer beside me and got put in the same class as me wtf?

Don't they conduct tests to see if you can read?

Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

I was actually surprised when I went in cause I thought they would or atleast dig deeper. Before we went into the interview we had to fill out a short questionare asking basic questions like, are you parents chinese, do u speak chinese, how long are u in canada for etc?...the interview was 5 min and he basically read over my questionaire and put me in heritage because my parents are chinese lol....guess im effed for this course
