As soon as I read that I looked up the rules were for common law marriages in Massachusetts.. He is lucky.. One piece of advice... dont think about pulling something like this in BC if you have been living with your gf for over a year and have a nice house and car. If she knows the laws and gets a good lawyer she will take half of your stuff with her when she leaves.

Yeah except if you post them publically, and she finds out you could be charged. As far as i know you can not legally tape sex videos without her consent. A good lawyer and as above mentioned, your screwed. Sometimes the justice system here fails me in many ways.

Marriage Law - I quote from the laws

However, the part that deals with marital property excludes common law spouses as sec. 2 defines spouses as those who are married together or who entered into a void or voidable marriage in good faith. Thus common law partners do not always evenly divide property in a breakup, and the courts have to look to concepts such as the constructive or resulting trust to divide property in an equitable manner between partners
