| Government Enhanced Reliability Check
Has anybody been through the ERC before? I have been offered a gov job (not military or anything) and need to go through this.
I got a question as to employment history. There's this part in my employment where I put I worked at ABC co. from 2 years ago till present. That's because I consider myself still employed there since I told my employer I have been busy with school/other activities and such and have not been able to work there. However, the last time I have worked at ABC co. was probably in fact more than 1 year ago.
However, I don't know about this Enhanced Reliability Check and was wondering if they call my former workplace to check and find out I am not currently working there, will I be in shit? What do you guys think i should do?
Should I call my soon-to-be employer and let her know that my resume has an error and ask her to fix it? I am scared that this will affect the status of my job offer... However, I am even more afraid that if they DO consider me lying when they conduct the background check.

Because the turnover is moderate and not low, I am not sure whether the front line staff knows my names and from what I have seen in past videos, don't they ask random people in the workplace to see if such and such person still works there? ie. Not just dependent on the employer, but also to other people?

If you have not worked at ABC for more than 6 months at a given co, consider yourself unemployed.
Now to fix the problem, call abc co., and tell them your situation, ask them to do you a favour. If the Govt Employer calls' ask ABC to say that you took 1/X year sabbatical - they would gladly accept you back, if you decide to return to work. You might need to pull some strings to get this done, unless you are a high up at Abc co.
Next time don't lie on your resume!!!

Enhanced Reliability is a low security status. Your department won't be doing this check - it will be handled by Public Works. In most cases, the checks will be relatively routine - criminal record, etc.
Your current and former employers will be contacted by the department that will be hiring you to verify your experience, qualifications, character, personality, etc. These checks have nothing to do with your security status (whether it's Enhanced, Secret, Top Secret, etc.) Your current employment status with Company-X rarely factors into the decision; as long as you did work there at some point and your previous manager can speak about your work, you should be okay.
I've been on hiring boards before and this is how it usually works.

^^ pretty much what Tapioca says sums it up.. Enhanced Reliability can take upwards of a few months.
