: Usain Bolt sets new world record in the 200m

He just destroyed his own world record for the 200m...

It was previously 19.30 seconds from last year's Olympics...

He just ran a 19.19, shaving 0.11 seconds off the record, exactly the same amount he shaved off the 100m record a few days ago...

Someone needs to check this guy for circuit boards and wires...

the most amazing thing was how the 20 second mark was barely scratched until michael johnson, who was head and shoulders above the rest. then suddenly bolt comes out of nowhere and beats an already amazing record. the mid 19s were completely skipped.

He shouldn't not be breaking his records by so much.... should just milk it by going .3 under every time lol

(I understand that's easier said than done)

whats crazy is he ran the second 100m as fast as he set the record for the first 100m. he kept 100% pace for the full 200m
Um... no.

The first 100m is from a stop.

The second 100m is with a flying start.

They can't sprint all out for the full 200m.

i remember during the olympics they interviewed michael johnson if he thinks that bolt will be able to break his 200m record. this was already after bolt won gold in the 100m.

he flat out said no, he doesn't think so.

i mean wouldn't a more humble answer be, "well, if anyone's gonna do it, it would be him"

it's michael johnson. are you really surpised?

i was going to say "aside from acceleration" but i figured that was mostly irrelivant.

the fact is, hes going flat outfor 200m.

i dont think most 200m sprinters are sub 10 second 100m sprinters. and i dont think most 100m sprinters can even do 200m.

In track and field - the question of steroids will always come up now. Too many people have ruined for the legit athletes..who have to think that Bolt is getting tested almost daily.

FOr instance, that Priscilla Lopez or whatever her name is for Canada who won the silver in the 100M hurdles, she got tested shortly before her silver medal performance...i hope he's getting tested and what we are all witnessing is based on god given talent...this guy is sick.

^^ usain was tested immediately, and came up clean. he's come up clean every test. that doesn't mean jack shit, cuz look at that american woman who was tested clean for all those years, but was really using steroids. uhhm... marion jones i think.

but i *HOPE* he's clean -- the guy doesn't seem to be a dick.

They won't "accuse" him of using steroids, but they certainly wonder if he is, but there has been absolutely no reason to believe he is at this point. He's probably been tested hundreds of times by now. His coaches have publically stated that there is no way in hell he's used illegal substances. Unless Jamaica someone has a magic undetectable steroid formula that nobody else in the world knows about, I'm thinking it's pretty unlikely Bolt is on any banned substances.

No, he isn't going flat out for 200m.

Here is a breakdown of his race: http://speedendurance.com/2009/08/21/usain-bolt-200-meter-splits-speed-reserve-and-speed-endurance/

Final Thoughts
You will never run the first 100m all out (hence the speed reserve), plus there is always a slowdown over the final 100m straightaway (hence the speed endurance training component).

And I think you're wrong about the 100m vs 200m sprinters too. I think there are a good number of sprinters who compete in both 100m and 200m just like Bolt

iEatClams
08-21-2009, 10:39 AM
I think one of the major factors of his success is that he's super tall. He also has a good coaching team. His coach has had multiple runners in the finals so far. Some of the guys he's racing against in the finals are trained by the same coach.

THe other crazy thing I found out is that he went sub 20 seconds on the 200m when he was still in Highschool. Now that's fucking crazy!

when you're competing @ an olympic level I'm sure theres many ways to go around testing

its expensive and hard to test for everything, especially stuff that gets out of ur system fast, he may not be currently on roids, doesn't mean he previously hasn't been

at least according to the documentary bigger faster stronger it claims up to 70-80% of professional athletes are currently or have been on roids

I'd imagine that when you're competing at the Olympic level, the drug tests would be as stringent as it can possibly be, despite the expenses.

I know this may be far-fetched but....

I really think that the Jamaicans have been using drugs not yet identified to be on the banned substance list. Bolt plus that other jamaican lady breaking records by a lot.....questions are to be raised.

Its like when epo in cycling came out. No one tested it before because investigators didn't know how to test for it or even know about it for a while. So technically he isn't breaking any rules, but when investigators find out about this drug/product, it will be banned.

Just my 2 cents.

The olympics are pretty serious about testing.. however, it doesn't mean that if the athlete uses, they will find something..

there are many known performance enhancers that clear the system quickly or can be deposited quickly. Also, there are a number of drugs that cannot even be tested.

And i've read in China they have already developed a new strain of HGH, that is far superior to the one the body makes. therefore, you can inject yourself with a moderate supply and when testing the HGH level in your body it will still be "Normal" but since this new HGH is more "potent" you get the benefits of having more when it seems you are not.

in today's world, anything is possible..
but then again, maybe bolt is the next generation for athletes.. that is also possible.
but you can't rule out either.

I can't see why Jamaica would be at the forefront of performance enhancing drugs.

the thing is this guy started winning shit at 15... it just doesn't seem to make that much sense that a 15y/o is experimenting with steroids and shit.

i guess this still leaves the fact that he has talent + he doped up later on in life? but i guess i just want to believe that he's clean =]

I think its just the fact that track is really the only big sport there, aside from soccer. I was there about two months ago, and I swear like every 10 minutes on tv was an ad for track meet this and track meet that. That and the town hes from, Trelawny, is basically just a shanty town, so all they have there growing up is track. Also look at the history of Jamaican sprinters, its not just like they became fast in the last little while, lots of the best sprinters in the world have all come from the carribbean.

True... i grew up in Jamaica and every school i went to track and field was mandatory.

You don't see the kids down there sitting on their couches watching Nickelodeon everyday.

And down there is different too, they don't live to eat, they eat to live... everyone down there is so fit
