: Subway guy was on phone while making my sub

Just wanna get everyone's take on this. So yesterday I went subway to grab a bite to eat. This was later in the evening so it wasn't all that busy. Maybe 5 customers in total (mostly eating at the tables)
I walk in and there's this guy who works there who takes my order but he's on the phone talking to someone. I got my sub and everything but I just found it odd that he'd be allowed to be on the phone on shift.. Is that even allowed?

if yes, whats the problem?

Hm... well i'm sure with most jobs especially when you're dealing some sort of service or hospitality you wouldn't likely be allowed to even have your cell phone on you...

Did his use of his phone cause him to ignore you in any way?

In the evening they never work under supervision. There is only a manager per store, not even an assistant manager. Other than a few spot checks, there isn't a lot of checking on the off-shifts.

Basically, shit happens. If there is a complaint, it will usually be followed up on, but its up to the manager to give a shit. Given that they don't make a lot themselves, they may, or may not care.

When I managed a store years ago(Southwest Marine and Cambie-holla!) if they kept the place somewhat clean, didn't steal and showed up on time and tried to get through some prep, I was basically happy. Other managers acted like the gestapo with their staff, but at the pay rate I couldn't justify not being at least appreciative that people showed up on a daily basis.

It is Subway afterall, not McDonalds.

you are lucky he got your order right. the lady that works at the subway in waterfront center downtown just puts whatever veggies in your sub regardless of what your preference is.

if he was making my sub all wrong i'd probably walk away.
otherwise i wouldnt care. its not like it was a server at a restaurant or anything, just a fast food joint.

i wouldn't like it. how often do people wash their phones? he would have to bring the phone up to his greasy face and then again when he's done. i don't want someone's disgusting face grease on my sub

Maybe he was the owner and was taking an important call?

Handling cash and touching your food is even worse.

Expect minimum wage effort for a minimum wage job.

Theres a middle aged asian guy who works (maybe hes gone now) at the Subway on Granville next to Holt-Renfrew who used to make subs and no matter what you told him to put he'd always put the same shit and whatever he wanted to put on the sub. The very last time I came into that restaurant I got into an argument with him because I didn't want lettuce on my sub. He started yelling at me that he "Needed to put lettuce on the sub". I couldn't believe that.

I let him make the whole sub, wrap it up, and I walked out.

Hell, he didn't even have the excuse of 'talking on the phone' for not listening to me.

hey OP i would be kinda offended too cuz i mean wtf i m trying to order
kinda rude i think

anyway i dont mean to steer this away from the topic but sorry im going to have to cuz i also want to rant
and too lazy to start a new thread

anyway so we're at transcontinental near waterfrontt and lets call these ppl person A and B

so A and B was ordering a pitcher of beer and the waitress asked them both whos tab would the beer be under..and person A was like we'll figure that out later

so as time progresses our waitress was cleaning up our table... and had one plate in her hand.. the plate was nudged by another waiter by accident b/c he didnt see
and the plate fell right on Person A's shoulder and it hurt like anal rape

so the manager came and was like we're so sorry ur bill is covered (person A only ordered soup cuz he wasnt hungry at that time, lol)

so as the bill came the soup was covered but we assumed the beer would also be taken care of but nope it wasnt..
so person A was like i thought the beer was taken care of (while aching in pain rubbing his shoulders) and the waitress was like nope it wasnt under your tab
and the manager was like i only took care of the soup

so in short , they were reluctant to take care of the beer but eventually they did
i'm just wondering what you guys think of that?
holy fuck its a long read haha

If him talking on the phone does not affect his performance of taking my order and making my sub, then I wouldn't care. His manager is the one who should care. However, if he made me repeat what I said because he was busy on the phone, or he makes a mistake making my sandwich, I wouldn't be pleased.

are all subway prices different? because everytime I get a footlong and a bottled drink the price seems to change at different subways.

my experience at subway at blundell and garden city (richmond) is probably worse. it's a 24hr subway and the middle aged mainlander retard employee was asleep inside the walk in fridge. mind you, she's the only one on shift and it's like 7am. me and this other guy are just standing there repeating "hello..? HELLO?"

finally after a good 3-4 minutes she stumbles out with that just-woke-up face and pretended nothing happened.

i'm not sure if it's just me, but when i worked shit jobs, i still put in some effort like showing up early/on time, staying awake and doing a decent job.

edit: kind of reminds me of this lol...

ummm - how heavy can a plate be to cause so much pain? The height from waiter to shoulder couldn't be that tall.It was an accident, and it couldnt have caused that much pain. Unless the person was really small or had some sort of pre-injury.

personally, I say the soup was good enough, unless there was food on the plate and it got your clothes dirty or something.

hey everyone im the guy that was making his sub. i just wanted you all to know i was in a very important phone conversation with my girlfriend about what her cat ate for dinner last night. apparently the wet cat food isn't cutting it anymore. these days, even cats are being spoiled. we were debating whether or not we should start cooking for her cat.

PS, before you came in i accidentally sneezed all over the veggies, and i dropped all the buns on the floor, but it should be fine i guess

Person A did not clearly indicate to the waitress that the beer should be on their tab. If it had been clearly communicated, you wouldn't have had to write this story. Seems like Person A & B were too cheap to pay for the food they ordered.

Whoaaa.. internet tough guy slow your roll dude

Where did I complain? I merely wanted to get everyone's opinion on this since I found it to be odd. This is the first time something like this has happened but maybe others have experienced this. I didn't complain nor am I gonna snitch on this guy. I just found it weird he was on phone whilst making my sandwhich. Guy made a bangin sandwich to boot and obviously showed his impressive starcraft'esque multi tasking skillzzzzzzz
