Shit, why did you leave your passport and wallet in your car? Make sure you call the cops and file a report for your passport and any other gov't issued docs that might have been in your wallet.

yeah. I had the passport in the glove box because I used to go to the states a lot for work. Got a call from RCMP. DL MC and CC were found on a street. Already canceled my passport. Got new bank card.

Thats the 2nd time I lose a DL go get a new one, pay for it, find my old one. Oh well... at least someone found the other stuff

Did they end up catching the car? Next time I see a car do that I will rip off its tires so it can't do it again.

Wow...sorry to hear about it man. What's with all the break-ins recently!? I got my car broken into last Wednesday, and my buddy got his car broken into last Friday. Hopefully the cops will catch these fuckers.

People who are blaming the skytrain are IDIOTS.

Shit like break ins happen EVERY DAY and EVERY WHERE. Having your logic, it is like saying "Oh since the population of Vancouver increased yesterday (when it was a sunny day) and now it is raining, it is ALL BECAUSE OF THAT ONE NEW PERSON. Fuck! Let's blame that mofo!"

no man, dont you know? Hobos and druggies can't use bridges, and buses are too complex for them. Skytrain is their only way to cover great distances and get onto our untouched island.

Ughhh NEVER leave your wallet in your car. EVER.

Preventing yourself from spending = self control. People need to exercise this a little more.

yeah, shit, we'll all look out for your pack of gum on craigslist.

sucks to hear though, but Richmond was already pretty sketch before the Canada line was completed, just that they weren't talked about. I know a few people who had their Richmond houses broken into, including my grandparents. As for cars, I do randomly see broken windows and shit at Minoru.

ROFL!
There was an episode on CTV interviewing a guy that got his car broken into many times that he started to take action with bear traps and shit in his truck.

Are you that guy? hahaha jk

BTW, you can get in really big shits if you booby-trap your car.

I hate thieves, i deal with them all the time at work.

Transit-related crime in suburban areas

Article Abstract:

Extension of rail transit to suburban areas may cause a temporary increase in crime. The extension of rail transit of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority in June 1993 caused an initial increase in crime in the Kensington and Indian Creek, Georgia, areas. The increase in crime rate was more apparent in Kensington due to the concentration of commercial activities there. However, the incidents decrease over time due to effective policing and lack of attractive opportunities. Since the study reveals that increase in crime rate is short-lived, expansion of transit railways remain justified.

I'd cancel the credit cards in case they copied down your credit card info somewhere. You'll never know if it was a hobo who stole your shit or someone with access to a computer who feels like going on a spending spree.

Huge misconception there. Skytrain or no skytrain there will always be crimes committed. A skytrain won't greatly increase crime but it will make it more accessible to people to commit crimes in Richmond.

Ok, let's define "crime". It can be anything between robbery to say public drinking. Do you have the entire article? If you do, please provide it so that we can make a FAIR judgment. Or did you just read the abstract and think "Holy shit! This is AWESOME, lets not bother to read anymore and just post it!"

Now, for all you other retards who probably just read the abstract and thought I was wrong. Well, good on you. It seems as though you can be influenced by a simple abstract from 1996 and 1974 that has yet to be proven a credible article/publication and it seems for the most part, the article and it's findings are circumstantial. By the way, that makes the most recent one from over 10 years ago. Could this be simply just be a matter of changing of the times? Could it be ethnically driven? Is there proof of external validity? What was the data and how was the data collected? What about internal validity?

If I am wrong, I'll admit. I am not a perfect being and am not all knowing. I have no issues with saying I was wrong but at the very least, when you jump to a conclusion, at least back it up properly.

I do have the article in PDF form, it references the following:

"the potential for transit-related crime is certainly plausible based on the well established research in the field of criminal justice. For example, is known that criminals frequently travel beyond their immediate home environments to commit crimes, particularly unilaterian crimes such as robbery, burglary, and auto theft (Capote and Nichols, 1976), "

Feel free to argue these stats are outdated, but if you think the low life criminal mind really has changed in the last 30 years. I really would like to see some data.

As for jumping to conclusions, i'd say that is what you did when you called some people idiots.

pm me your email and i will gladly send you the article in its entirety.

Fair enough.

I think I should have been more clear about my previous post. What I meant to say is people who blame the increase in crime SOLELY on the skytrain are idiots.
