So, I just bought a VGA to VGA hoping to connect my laptop to my TV and have just found out that my TV does not have a VGA plug.. :(

I was just wondering if there are any converters that would solve my problem

The outouts that my TV has are:
2 x HDMI input ( 19 pin HDMI Type A ) , 2 x HD component input ( RCA phono x 3 ) , 1 x S-Video input ( 4 pin mini-DIN ) , 3 x Composite video/audio input ( RCA phono x 3 ) , 4 x Audio line-in ( RCA phono x 2 ) , 1 x Digital audio output (optical) ( TOSLINK )

which converter would produce the best quality?

I have already bought an s-video cable and the quality displayed on the tv is horrible and the ratios on the tv were completely off. Would a VGA connection solve all of these problems?

Also, would this converter display the same quality as the VGA cable or the s-video?

That's what I was thinking. A cheap video card with at least DVI shouldn't cost that much.

How would that work with a laptop??? You cannot just purchase a video card for a notebook...

trust me i had the same problem. no VGA input on my TV. only RGB and HDMI.

if you get the HDMI video card, you hook up through HDMI. excellent picture and audio quality.

*edit* the HDMI video card will replace your VGA video card

I think for laptops you'd have to go with the converter or purchase a laptop that has an HDMI out

You have a laptop that doesn't have DVI out, what kind of quality are you expecting from it? Did you find out what kind of resolution does the videochip on your laptop supports up to?

^ I think he just wants the best he can get with only having to purchase some cables.

also note you should buy a 3.5mm to RCA cable (aka Y cable or headphone to stereo cable) if you're watching anything with sound so you can hook the laptops sound to the TV or stereo instead of having to use laptop speakers.
