Golden Key International Honor Society

Just wondering how many of you are members? and pretty beneficial to you guys?

and also, for those that are in SFU, does having a scholarship pretty much means that you'd be invited to become a member?

You get invited if your GPA is within the top 15% of students within your faculty. And no, not everyone who gets a scholarship gets invited. The GPA cut-off will vary from year to year, and invitations are only sent out once a year, I believe.

I have been a member for over a year, but have not recieved any benefits from being a member. That is just me though since I don't attend any of their events. If you like to socialize, meeting new people, or perhaps get involved in a leadership role with the chapter then I suppose it could be very rewarding.

You do have to pay a fee of $90 dollars to join, but it's only a one-time deal and you get a nice certificate that you can frame or whatever. There are scholarships available to members only, but I have never applied for any of them. SFU offers enough scholarships that do not require half the effort to apply for one of those Golden Key scholarships.

Seriously though, it's just $90 dollars.

Cheap bastards ask you to pay $90 and don't even send you a letter printed on bond paper. What is this shit? I'm putting my food scraps on it tomorrow night.

Do you have to attend the initiation event or whatever it's called to receive the certificate? Or do they mail it to you?

No, you do not have to attend the induction ceremony. They mail you the certificate.

the only beneficial thing is having it on your resume. it gives you an opening as most employers have no idea what it is.

and you have to admit.
its sound very good. "top 15% in my facility"

You can still write that on your resume without paying the $90...
If they want proof just bring in the invitation instead

honestly, noone cares if you were in it or not.

In my progarm there's some of the smartest people i know doing research in quantum physics, corporate consulting etc. Some of the students have parents who are huge in the genetics field. None of them give a rats ass about golden key, some have never even heard of it.
