Those real islands found all over in Vancouver are so useless. I've never seen the point of them. If they removed that island along Cambie, that's one whole extra lane they could have used. Same with Kingsway. Pisses the shit out of me when I'm trying to go to places and I can only turn one way because of Islands. Most useless idea ever.

they are there to make a challenging course for you on your way home to satisfy your needs as a gear head..
you are supposed to approach them with the same speed as you would without them, if not, faster..
not only that, they are also checkpoints. the moment you pass them.. a sector time will pop up in the middle of your screen. also, the difference from your best run will be displayed on the top left corner so you can make adjustments for a faster time in the future

they are there to make a challenging course for you on your way home to satisfy your needs as a gear head..

Hell YES.. I have my old beater 94 Suzuki swift in my backyard waiting for a hurt, well more like waiting for the winter snow for some who cares about your car corner drifts...... You pay for the days insurance and we can both have a few runs(brand new tires)... LOL I doubt my 09 corolla would even power slide with its lame throttle response... The swift would power slide through those sideways no problem...
