: Disabling/Destroying WindowsXP remotely

One of my co-workers had their laptop stolen. It has LogMeIn Free installed, and he can access it when the thief is online. He wants to be able to fuck up Windows so the system won't start up. Only problem is he has about 15 seconds to do it before the thief realizes that he's remote controlling it, and unplugs the network.

I know that if there's some DLLs not present at bootup, like wininet.dll then the whole OS will refuse to start up, even in Safe Mode. The problem is that Windows File Protection will replace the missing file within a few seconds. Ideally, he'd like to toast the contents of the Documents and Settings to get rid of personal files. I'm a repairer of computers not a destroyer, so I would appreciate some advice on this.

can't he also use the IP the guy uses to figure out where the guy is, then ring up the cops?

Not much luck. Too bad he didn't have Lojack for laptops on it. It could've done what he wanted and gotten it back. Besides even if he's able to logme in and kill it it's just a matter of the theif reinstalling the os.

i've used logmein before... doesn't the person other end has to accept the remote access first? and other end has priority on mouse/keyboard control?

Yep. Computrace (http://www.absolute.com/) from Absolute Software. They're a local company right here in Vancouver. One of my buddies works in their support department.
