: questions from a club nub

this is sort of a rant and please excuse the length of the post, ill try and cliffnote it if it's a problem

well, last night i brought my boys to this asian club called Fabric, it use to be called something else back in the day right? all i remember was that it was a pretty asian washed club

now heres my first question

1) is it common for fights and scraps to break out? i saw at least 5 altercations last night, that's 5 ppl embarrassing themselves in front of everyone, was it because we were in trashy hood?

2) do young people have a fondness for poor music these days? i dont remember hearing more than 4 hit songs last night, i dont understand this trance and techno being blended with awful songs

3) bottled water is 5$? instantly gives me the image of corporate cats chuckling, not a big issue w/e

4) are half the club/bar attendees in their adolescent years? i cant even tell any more

my friends are in town for only another week, i feel embarrassed taking them to this venue, what would you guys recommend if money wasn't an issue and the place would be located downtown? a scene with a mixed crowd and some older songs would be nice, by old i mean 90s of course and early 2000 hiphop rap soul, if i hear lil wayne's paint sniffing lyrics my buzz will be instant killed

any input would be appreciated

yeah, lil wayne has ruined enough nights for everyone, in vancouver this techno crap is more than painful, i might have to moderate caps again if this continues

where do you think has the hottest and most exclusive crowd on a saturday or friday night?

you went to an asian club. thats the answer to all your questions. Anytime you get off of granville your going to have this type of crowd. You want old? Go to ginger, but be prepared to spend 10 dollars on a bottle of water.

1. No. Back when it was Sonar, it happened but not on a regular basis. If anything, it always happened outside and you get a free ride in a police car.

2. Yes. People are retarded and DJs suck these days.

3. I'm not sure.

4. Yes.

Depends on the day you go there will be different music playing. I say go to tunnel on fridays. Its small but the music is really good they play hip-hop, rnb, and rap but imo the DJ there is the best out of all the clubs i've went. They don't mix in techno at all. Semi mixed crowd. I would say 60% asian to 40% others. They also have drink special going on that night and ladies get free before 11. For bars I heard lamplighter is a really good place for like super old school music. But I believe they play everything cept techno but i'm not entirely sure. Also try out pop opera on fridays. But you'll def hear lil wayne playing lol.

I agree, music is always good and I've never seen a fight break out at all. They've got two rooms with different music if you're not feeling one.

Man, when we were younger, people in their late 20's early 30's said our music sucked. It's going to always happen. In 10 years, the people clubbing hard now are going to go out and wonder what the fuck kids are listening to.

You just went to the wrong club is all.
Asians = fabric/mint/gossip/canvas/boss.

Try Republic/Modern/Lamplighter/Shine/Celebs (on Tues), any granville bar

I went on saturday and it is far by the worst club i've been to. Music seemed like trashy grinding music. The girls are ignorant and only dance in their own girl groups. Asians don't know how to dance.

If you're a dancer and do freestyin, go to Fortune, Gossip or Shine where the fun is. Asian clubs aren't worth my time and effort to go meet new people when they're obviously too 'cool' to talk to people. Oh, did i mention water is 5 dollars?

I was the only one freestylin. no one bothered to join. not going back there again. /rant.

I hate the type of asian group that rolls to the club 2 guys and 10 girls

I wonder what those 2 guys do

Not only that the girls are unaproachable as shit.

I would have just straight up told them that she came and talked to me.
The shitty part is you cant make them look like an idiot without worrying about what will happen to you.
If I knew that all that was gonna happen to me was I'd maybe get in a fight I'd piss them right off.

I'm suprised the douchebags have overcome their phobias of coming to a homosexual nightclub though. I don't fight in bars though.

what's up with the guestlist at caprice/venue dre? i never go clubbing and i try to get a crew together to have a good night and then can never accomodate my guestlist! its not like i have 25+ people on there, its just like 12

is 12 an unreasonable number for a place like caprice/venue?

unit
09-02-2009, 04:10 PM
venue should be easy since its still new and not that busy (last 2 times i went anyway). caprice gets real busy tho so they prob rather have big groups line up early to get in

frost91
09-02-2009, 04:15 PM
the thing is, i don't show up at the door at 1130 demanding to get in. it's rare to get a group of friends out, so i want to be prepared for where ever i'm going. so i'll email a list early, show up early etc..etc..

maybe if i dress up head to toe in ed hardy and wave 100's around they'll let me in ?????

no.. Ed Hardy is not allowed in Vancouver clubs..
Your best bet is to look up the number for the club and leave them a message. Tell them how many people are coming out with you and ask them to call you back.
I'd do that well in advance and maybe give a couple places a call.

No it's not unreasonable but at caprice we are pretty adamant that you get there before 1030. When did this happen? Was it a Saturday? Saturday is our busiest night And we can get 400 people guest lists

fabric will take anybody in nowdays. i know girls that are still in highschool (grade 10-11) that go there. expensive drinks and a bad layout of the club. some people may love it but to speak on my behalf and friends who are my age...it wouldn't be somewhere we'd go often.

i haven't clubbed in awhile but went to canvas last friday and i thought it wasn't too bad. a bit older crowd (early to mid 20s), asians mostly but i did see a mix, and i liked how the dance floor was nicely seperated. music was pretty hot--dj downlowe ((who usually spins at atl/boss on sats with kidd)) spun there on friday--not sure if he spins there every friday though.

fridays @ canvas are legit when there are events going on
mature crowd, club is nice, staff is super friendly, fills up nice too

fabric crowd = heatbags/wannabes and snotty asian girls, music is mediocre ... lots of top 40 garbage... fun when its packed tho

republic, i dont know how it is so much now, but when i did go this club was pretty good, good music, good people, just gets really overcrowded though sometimes.

i would come before 1030 but they won't even take the guestlist?

so i should pay 20 a head so the bouncers earn 200 bucks for about 5 seconds of work?

i have an easier time getting into clubs in vegas then in van i don't get it!!!!!!

im sorry but what kind of tool goes to a club at 1030? this is vancouver last time i checked, not rio, not hong kong, not montreal and certainly not vegas, vancouver

so canvas is a decent place? i have one friend that's only 20 will he be ok to get in?

I used to go clubbing almost religiously about 6 years ago and the scene was fun. Now everyone is like a splitting image of each other and you can feel the hostility in the air. Vancouver clubs suck IMO.

Why is that your concern?

Also like I said we get 200-400 person guestlists on saturdays.

For a while, I used to go "clubbing" every Saturday. This would have been in 2000 or so. I never saw a single fight, and everyone I met was nice, and approachable. The crowds were very mixed (in race and sexual orientation) and everyone was just there to have fun. Drink, get high, or just dance. Every time I went to another club, it was just disappointing.

Those were the days :lol

well that depends on at which point during the night they're holding the water bottle
beginning = high, end = sobering up

DragonsMaw
09-15-2009, 05:33 PM
Well if you actually dance and don't really care to drink... Maybe that's why bouncers look at me funny.

Fuck the scene here though, I used to go just to dance. Now I go to creepily stare at hot women if there are any. When I really want to get down I just bring speakers and hit up robson square or something. Hell sometimes I go to work just for the clear space. There's only a couple rare nights where the music is good and I don't feel 3 or 5 guys staring me down after a girl's talked to me. That's just fucked up.

If your a club noob or don't have a connection you should definitely get there by 10:30 and get guestlist if you want to avoid long waits. I've been doing the club scene locally for 15 years and I've definitely notice a difference in attitudes, there's too many wannabe tough guys nowdays. It's not a big deal tho we usually just laugh at them anyways, just mostly try hards. LOL back in the days of Mars and PO when there where bar fights they used to be actually kinda fun and entertaining, but now when a fight breaks out its retarded, usually over about prissy sissy crap.

Still, I'm still at the clubs/lounges 4 times a week, we usually just hang at the bar, say hi to a few ppl, grab some ladies and chill. Earliest we go I think is about midnight and usually bounce around to 3 or 4 different places. Vancouver club scene has definitely gone down the crapper in the ~15years of my experience.
