I was complaining about I feel so tired at work the other day, it seems that
even I had 8-9hrs of sleep on friday and saturday night, I still feel like shit
the next day.

My eyelids are so heavy and I have a shoulder pain, which made me did
poorly in Saturday job interview. My family doctor couldn't tell what's wrong
but saying I am just too stressful.

I went to a chinese herbalist yesterday, she said I should stop all the sweet
and cold drinks. The white layer on my tongue is getting thicker and thicker,
which means my digestion system is not very healthy. She asked me to drink
those bitter herbal tea last night and the next few days, so far I had a very
bad diarrhea but I do feel slightly better this morning.

So sweet and cold drink are really bad for us?
I drink sweet lemon tea, some pepsi, and cold milk tea every day. I guess
water only for me from now on.:cry:

I bolded the problem for you....all of these people are full of shit

Cold drinks are the same for you as boiling hot drinks. your body heats/cools the liquid to homeostasis. however, pepsi lemon tea are bad simply because they are high sugar drinks and are empty calorie foods.

Cold has nothing to do with it, but definitely the sugar will fuck you up and make you tired.

Brush your tongue.

Are you eating enough and are you eating nutrition or just dessert? Try getting some exercise as well and see if that helps.

When there's nothing wrong with you, go back to your herbalist and see if she sends you home with more herbs. OT: I'd like to be a doctor and run my own pharmacy.

Go back to your family doctor and say your fatigue is starting affect your work/social life. The least he can do is to send you to a lab for some blood tests. TSH deficiency? Iron deficiency? Infection? There is a whole fuck ton of stuff that can cause fatigue.

This.
have you ever looked at some of the claims herbalists make? i remember riding the bus westbound on hastings and it stopped by some herbalist shop. i'm pretty sure i saw a sign about curing aids. complete BS, so don't waste your time on these morons.

that white layer on your tongue has nothing to do with digestion. you wanna know if your digestion is good? if you literally shit bricks, then no.

I guess everybody here has a PHD of pharmacy or biology. They all know the 5000yrs knowledge is a complete bs.

I don't want to say it is better than western medicine, at least everytime it cures my allergy much quicker than pills, and I won't feel drowsy at all.

If someone says that the temperature of your food has an affect on your body, that pretty much ruins all credibility they may have had.

Seriously? If you have complete faith in that type of "knowledge" why ask in a public forum? :gtfo:

Go back to her ask why you don't feel any different.

if you want to take the same treatments people used thousands of years ago, fine. but guess what... if you lived to 30, you'd be the village elder

Yea, you know how long people believed the earth was flat, and how old voodoo is? why dont you go to a witch doctor to heal your problems, im sure it will be just as effective.

i will never be convinced that chinese medicine is any less than complete and utter bullshit.

I don't think it is all complete bullshit. Much of it is the same as western medicine, but they just use herbs in pure (weak) form instead of synthetics.

But most of it is, especially their diagnosis techniques.

wow, I am amazed people here go against it that much.

but that's not what I care, I am neither a missionary nor chinese herbalist promoter.

You know what works really well in Chinese Medicine: the power of belief. I'm sure it has it's merits, but i see a lot of ppl who ignore or are ignorant of other variables. It reminds me of SkyTrain syndrome.

Just wondering, what's the Elementary and HS Biology curriculum like in HK compared to ours (eg. up to Science 10)?

Highschool biology curriculum is probably like year 1 to ours.
my younger cousin (= gr 12 in hk) knows all the stuff I learned when I was first year science student

I guess the only person who is really educated here should be "Girl"
too bad, she's not around this week, she seems to know a lot about it.

The real deal Chinese herbalist doctors are good... but there are wayyyy too many fakes who pretend to know shit, well what do you expect from China?

About the tongue, start brushing it? LOL

And how tired you feel depends on many things... Do you exercise regularly? What kind of food are you eating? Did you drink enough water?

How is Girl the only "educated person" here? You have no clue as to what are backgrounds are like. You sound pretty damn clueless by assuming that none of the people who replied to your thread have any background in western medicine.

In any case; Chinese medicine is not without it merits. But seriously you're probably better off rearranging your furniture than to take the Chinese herbal medication that gives you the runs.

Woah, I think he meant that Girl is one of the few people around here who has knowledge in Chinese medicine. :)

why argue?

I take the best both worlds, Chinese meds kicks my cough's ass way faster then Western meds. And any serious disease, i'm going with wester meds.

i don't understand where you guys come from... hot fluids are actually better for you than cold fluids. i don't know what sort of quacks you guys go to - but all doctors will tell you that. that's why when you get the flu/cold, you are recommended to drink plenty of HOT fluids and have plenty of rest. no doctor out there will tell you to drink COLD water as opposed to hot water.

does it ever occur to any of you that when you have an irritated throat, drinking any sweet and/or cold drink would make you cough more?

you get the runs from one of two reasons: you drank the medicine without eating beforehand OR you got some bad medicine. what you should do is find a reputable chinese doctor (one that has been around for 15 years or so)

what you also need to do is fix up your diet, stop eating steak everynight and switch to a more diverse diet of vegetables and meat. some fruits will help too

It's a fact that cold food and liquids make the body burn more calories in order to maintain homeostasis of the core body temperature.

THey tell you that to make you feel better. The virus could care less whether you're drinking something hot or cold. If cold season was in the summer, they'd tell you to drink something cold.

Never. Your throat is irritated from what? Explain the rationale behind this.

Never. Your throat is irritated from what? Explain the rationale behind this.

In response to Gars and not necessarily the OP, most sweet things are made with refined sugars now which is a suppressant to the immune system in the body and increase the chances of infections in the body. As for the throat thing, there were studies that show that things like sugars, dairy (due to a protein in dairy called Caesin and Lactalbumin), as well, soy, alcohol will aggravate the membrane lining of the throat where the mucous producing glands are. This will further irritate the already sensitive throat and it will cause the mucous to drip back in the throat causing sore throats. Honey is usually a substitute as you would most likely see all those lemon-honey flavored cough drops at the Pharmacy. Honey is one of those rare food items that will last forever due to it's waxy coating that won't irritate the throat. It also has antibacterial properties.

As for cold drinks, I'm assuming it's due to various reasons. There was an article published last year about studies that showed the effects of hot drinks vs cold drinks in aiding of cold and flu symptoms. I don't believe it's the virus we're we're attacking considering viruses can not be cured, but it's the symptoms. As well there's been many cases that show cold drinks triggering bronchial asthma attacks, just simply due to the fact that the inflammation of the bronchial tubes are so sensitive that anything from dust to a sudden change in temperature can trigger an attack.
