Is it possible to increase partition of HDD without reinstalling/reformating?

I only gave my C: partition 30gb initially. Thinking that should be enough since I only intended to have windows installed in there.
But it turns out that I like to leave icons all over my desktop, which is part of C: so I really do need more space. C: gets used up quite a bit too for just background temp stuff, like Photoshop, transfering files, etc.
I've been trying to extract something big to another partition that has enough space, but it automatically extracts to C: first as a temp area.
Which C: doesn't have enough space.
So I want to make my partition for C: bigger... but is there a way without
removing everything from the HDD and reformating?

Yes, the partition can be resized. Most partition manager programs can do it.
There are many available on Hiren's Boot CD if you want to look for that.

you used up 30GB with just windows installed on there?
You must have installed all your apps onto the C:\Program Files, too.
Will moving the paging file to another drive free up enough space for you?

my C: has Windows, all my software applications excluding games (I put games in another partition) and just random temp stuff I put on my desktop.
Apparently, that took up more space than expected.

vista itself already have the tool to redo partition in disk management

that's what i'd recommend too. but this snow leopard upgrade thing is driving me insane. it doesn't see any of my partitions.

I'm going to use "Partition Magic 8" to increase my C: (where windows is located)
There's only C: and D: , so I don't have any "spare" space in the HD. Just two partitions and I want to increase C: and shrink D:
Is this going to be absolutely safe? As in files won't go missing or delete on it's own, etc.?

It's fine. I've repartitioned my C: drive alone at least half a dozen times with PM.

Any disk job is never 100% safe, however most of the disk programs are pretty solid. If this is for a laptop be sure the battery is in and it's plugged into the wall, etc.
