That's the point. The video they filmed actually shows the chicks being treated quite well. With the exception of the one that got injured and just sat there dying while the vegetarian filmed it, the others were all killed quickly and efficiently.

why don't those greenpeace jackoffs raise their own chickens humanely if they care so much, i'll try not to laugh when i see them walking their chickens and what not.

I saw this post on another forum regarding this video. I thought it was really good (although I don't agree with the abortion stuff):
Talk about anthropomorphic projection...;)

Besides the fact that every one of these chicks was *born* because of the hatchery--and would not have been born otherwise, hence the name "hatchery"--the fact is that these chicks barely have a functioning nervous system at this state in their development.

The ones being discarded in the clip are either diseased or otherwise malformed, and are unsuitable for food production--which, again, is why the hatchery exists and why all of these chicks were hatched in the first place. No, sorry to say, these chicks are not "rounded up in the wild" and then summarily "executed" as shown simply to satisfy the sadomasochism of the hatchery owners...;) The "horror" here lurks in the uneducated imagination of the viewer--certainly not in the human beings eating the chicken food products that result.

I'll tell you what truly amazes me about all of this ignorance, and that's when I hear the same people who protest so bitterly about chicken hatchery food production saying nary a word about the practice of for-profit human abortion--and nobody eats the aborted human fetuses--they are just killed and trashed for profit. Methinks the priorities in modern society are twisted, sometimes beyond belief.

If human abortion mills were filmed just like this hatchery, how would the public respond? I don't think they'd ever again confuse on-demand, for-profit abortion with a "a right to choose," since they'd see that such unfortunate fetuses are given no more choice in the matter than are the chicks in this hatchery clip. But the chicks are hatched for a specific reason relative to human food consumption--there is no such rationale behind aborting human beings. The very people who so often work to release these kinds of ignorant hatchery clips for chickens are the same ones who work hard to suppress what occurs inside an abortion mill. Amazing.

Vegetarians are so fucking stupid.

That's a harsh label. One could easily say Meat eating is just as "fucking stupid."

I suppose you're a eater of red meat. You actually enjoy consuming Sodium Nitrates and Nitrites? A known carcinogenic injected into meat to preserve its red color? The USDA tried to ban it in the 1970s, but hell, the food lobbyists (particularly those in the factory farming industry) got in the way.

Because without it, from the slaughter house to your fridge, your meat would actually turn a putrid gray color? Sodium Nitrates are under the umbrella of chemicals known as nitrosamines, which is what lab rats get injected with when scientists want them to DEVELOP cancer so they can study them. So why the hell are we eating this shit?

You know about the Monsanto with their recombinant bovine growth hormones? These cows are milked the shit out of, injected full of hormones so every last drop of milk gets squeezed out of them, so much so, that pus ends up in the milk because they're so overmilked.

Looked into Tyson with their slaughter practices? How come your mouth doesn't water at the thought of eating raw bloody meat? Because we've been conditioned to believe that COOKED meat is tasty and delicious.

Hell man, I just came back from Nepal, and one of the local delicacies is grilled buffalo brains, and that shit is fucking difficult to stomach. Because I'm not conditioned to like it. Tastes like shit too, like eating burnt gristle. But they LOVE IT UP. It looks ten times better than it tastes.

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i280/Liquid_Turbo/IMG_8745Large.jpg

How about our instincts, put a young kid in a room with an apple and a raw steak, they'll eat the apple and won't know what to do w/ the steak.

Put a baby cat/dog with a steak and apple, they'll nibble at the steak and play with the apple.

Also, what do you make of this?

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/Rixpics007/MammalDigestionChart.jpg

If everyone in the world ate as much meat and meat products as the average american, (200kg a year), we'd need 2.5 more Earths just to produce that much meat.

I grew up in a meat eating household, but damn, the more you read into literature, all signs point away from eating processed red meat. I certainly eat way less these days, especially for health reasons. Then there's the whole issue with animal slaughter ethics/rights, but that's an entirely different topic.

Yes, I am a human. Also known as an "eater of red meat". And no, I avoid preserved meat like packages sausages and bacon, so I don't get much nitrites in my diet. I stick to eating whole chickens like I had for dinner last night, and 6 eggs like I had for breakfast this morning. Yum!

Because without it, from the slaughter house to your fridge, your meat would actually turn a putrid gray color? Sodium Nitrates are under the umbrella of chemicals known as nitrosamines, which is what lab rats get injected with when scientists want them to DEVELOP cancer so they can study them. We're not. You've simply been sold on vegetarian propoganda. Keep in mind from now on that I refer to vegetarianism as not a diet, but a religion. It explains a lot about people who follow the religion.

You know about the Monsanto with their recombinant bovine growth hormones? These cows are milked the shit out of, injected full of hormones so every last drop of milk gets squeezed out of them, so much so, that pus ends up in the milk because they're so overmilked.
Again, more unproven propoganda.

Looked into Tyson with their slaughter practices? How come your mouth doesn't water at the thought of eating raw bloody meat? Because we've been conditioned to believe that COOKED meat is tasty and delicious.
Actually I LOVE raw meat sometimes. Sushi of course, but I also enjoy my steaks VERY rare, and am a huge fan of beef tataki and even chicken tataki (raw beef, raw chicken). We have been "conditioned" to COOK meat because it is healthier (cooking removes parasites and bacteria).

I guess all those poor Nepalese bastards have been forced to eat those brains by the evil meat industry, huh?

How about our instincts, put a young kid in a room with an apple and a raw steak, they'll eat the apple and won't know what to do w/ the steak.
So because it's easier to eat a raw fruit, that means we are supposed to eat nothing but raw fruit? Sounds like a typical vegetarian bullshit argument to me.

Put a baby cat/dog with a steak and apple, they'll nibble at the steak and play with the apple.
Or maybe the kid would play with the apple AND the steak. Oh my god what are we to do???

Also, what do you make of this?

More vegetarian propogranda. You are really full of bullshit, you must be a bullshitetarian, right? I am not even going to respond to these stupid claims.

I grew up in a meat eating household, but damn, the more you read into literature, all signs point away from eating processed red meat. The more you read into literature that isn't written by mad raving lunatics, the more you will learn that if it hadn't been for eating meat, humans wouldn't even be humans today.

So take your lunacy elsewhere. There is literally no argument you can win. Because arguing that humans are supposed to be vegetarians is like arguing that there is a such thing as God. You literally have to ignore science to believe it.

If that's what you want to do, fine. Go on with your malnutritioned life. But don't spout off your bullshit to us trying to convince normal people to join your cult.

The people promoting the vegan diet due to animal cruelty are completely oblivious to the true suffering of the Third World.

They quote that 150,000 male chicks die from this industrial process.

As I've written elsewhere on another thread, 5,000,000 Africans in the Congo region have died since 1980 due to repeated civil war with next to no international intervention.

Yum!.

Unfortunately, millions of Canadians and Americans DO consume preserved meats. Are you actually going to argue that Sodium Nitrites are safe to eat? There is EXTENSIVE scientific literature that says otherwise. I'll just quote wiki for something simple.

"Sodium nitrite is commonly added to bacon, ham, hot dogs, luncheon meats, smoked fish, and corned beef to stabilize the red color and add flavor. The preservative prevents growth of bacteria, but studies have linked eating it to various types of cancer. "This would be at the top of my list of additives to cut from my diet," says Christine Gerbstadt, M.D., M.P.H., R.D., L.D.N., a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. "Under certain high-temperature cooking conditions such as grilling, it transforms into a reactive compound that has been shown to promote cancer."[11]"

I went travelling for four months, and had a chance to eat a freshly slaughtered NATURAL chicken in Indonesia. It tastes COMPLETELY different than the shit that is sold on our shelves here. It's fucking delicious actually.

If you want to see the effects of carbon monoxide treatments to red meats:
http://www.startribune.com/politics/national/congress/11826846.html

http://i.treehugger.com/files/meat.jpg

Both these steaks are 13 days old. One's been treated with Carbon Monoxide, the other has not. How the hell do you tell if the treated one is 13 days old and if it's actually fresh?

Excerpt:
"To put it bluntly," Stupak said, "the sole purpose of carbon monoxide packaging is to fool consumers into believing that the meat and fish they buy is fresh, no matter how old it is and no matter how decayed it might be."

If you want to put shit in your body, please go ahead, no thanks for me.

We're not. You've simply been sold on vegetarian propoganda. Keep in mind from now on that I refer to vegetarianism as not a diet, but a religion. It explains a lot about people who follow the religion.

What propoganda? Please refute what I just said about nitrites and meat alteration via carbon monoxide.

Shit dude. You are actually going to compare vegetarians as a religion? What do they worship? Where's the holy scripture? Where's the church.

Vegetarianism is a WAY OF LIFE, a DIET.

Quote:
You know about the Monsanto with their recombinant bovine growth hormones? These cows are milked the shit out of, injected full of hormones so every last drop of milk gets squeezed out of them, so much so, that pus ends up in the milk because they're so overmilked.

Again, more unproven propoganda.

What's unproven propaganada:

-That Monsanto created Prosilac?
-That prosilac (rBGH) is injected into millions of cows in the USA so increase the cow's milk production?
-Prosilac does cause inflammation of cow mammory glands, thus pus to develop due to overstimulation of the mammory glands?

"Pesticide company Monsanto markets the genetically engineered hormone rBST (recombinant Bovine Somatotropin; also known as: rbST; rBGH, recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone; and the brand name Prosilac) to dairy farmers who inject it into their cows to increase milk production. This product is not approved for use in many jurisdictions, including Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Japan. Even Monsanto accepts that rBST leads to mastitis (inflammation and pus in the udder) and other “cow health problems”, however, it maintains that “these problems did not occur at rates that would prohibit the use of Prosilac” (Monsanto). A European Union study identified an extensive list of health concerns of rBST use (European Commission). The US Dairy Export Council however entertain no doubt. In their background document they ask “is milk from cows treated with rBST safe?” and answer “Absolutely” (USDEC). Meanwhile, Monsanto’s website raises and answers the question: “Is the milk from cows treated with rbST any different from milk from untreated cows? No” (Monsanto). Injecting cows with genetically modified hormones to boost their milk production remains a contested practice, banned in many countries."

SHIT OF COURSE the US Dairy council is going to tell you that it's safe! But I digress. I'm just glad that rBGH is outlawed in Canada.

-The fact that we constantly consume sick animals?

From: http://www.rense.com/general38/pus.htm (with 65 references)

"Dairy products were the foods most often recalled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from the period October 1, 1993 through September 30, 1998 because of contamination with infectious agents, mostly bacteria. (2)

They are commonly tainted with disease-causing bacteria, such as salmonella, staphylococci, listeria, deadly E. coli O1573 and Mycobacterium paratuberculosis (4) (possibly one of the agents causing Crohn's disease; a form of life-threatening chronic colitis), as well as viruses known to cause lymphoma and leukemia-like diseases, and immune deficiency in cattle.

AIDS and Leukemia Viruses Dairy cattle are infected with bovine immunodeficiency viruses (BIV) and bovine leukemia viruses (BLV), worldwide. (Bovine immunodeficiency viruses can also be properly referred to as bovine AIDS viruses.)

In the United States, results show an average 40% of beef herds and 64% of dairy herds are infected with BIV. (5)
In Canada (6-7), the infection rate is 70% and in Argentina (8) the rate is 84% for BLV. "

Do not want.

I know where you're coming from. At this point I should say that I am not against meat-eating. If you live in a cave in the middle of nowhere, you very well have a right to hunt and eat whatever you need to survive.

But I am VERY anti-meat production and factory farming in our supposed "modern society." And I'm tired of the labelling of all vegetarians as crazy or unintelligent.

In Japan you can eat real chicken tataki from a chicken slaughtered minutes before. Here, eating chicken tataki runs a risk of salmonella poisoning. Eat rare pork and you risk Trichinosis,

We cook meat to remove parasites and bacteria, but we're the only species to have to do so. We're also the only other species that sucks on another mammal's titty to satisfy our milk cravings.

As with sushi and such. I'll just bring up a few points.

-Factory farmed salmon tastes and looks like shit compared to wild salmon. Oh shit, they add colorants to that farmed shit toO? Yea, your farmed salmon would normally be an ugly gray color.
-Mercury levels and heavy metals
-Parasites

I guess all those poor Nepalese bastards have been forced to eat those brains by the evil meat industry, huh?

Not really, it just proves how a population's perception and be fundamentally altered regarding diet. Here that idea is repulsive. Here the idea of farming and eating dogs is repulsive. I am only suggesting that is possible to have that discourse regarding eating ALL red meat.

If you gave me a live fish and told me to prepare it for you to eat no problem.
If you gave me a cow / dog and told me to do the same, I'd tell you to fuck off.

Hell, if it were legal, and I gave you a dog and you were willing to slaughter it yourself and then eat that bloody mess yourself, then you prove your own point. It's easy to hide behind your keyboard and say you'd do it, but when push comes to shove, you wouldn't be able to stomach doing that shit.

So what about Gorillas, who have complete carnivore builds, but have become total vegetarians?

So what about gorillas? Are they gravely sick? They are vegetarians that also eat ants and termites. And yet, they manage to remain muscular, healthy, have extremely strong bones, and a peaceful yet dominate species in the jungle based on a diet of bugs and grass.

Sounds like you've bought into meat eating propaganda saying the only way to strong bones and healthy muscles is to drink milk and eat meat. It simply isn't true. If you look at health studies the required daily intake of protein is on the order of <100grams a day. Hardly unnecessary to eat a whole chicken, let alone a chicken leg. There's also plenty of other calcium sources than milk.

Our anatomy merely points that it is more natural to eat a vegatarian diet rather than a carnivorous one. Do you think you could actually live a long healthy life if you exclusively ate only steak, pork, and chicken for the rest of your life?

If everyone in the world ate as much meat and meat products as the average american, (200kg a year), we'd need 2.5 more Earths just to produce that much meat.

More vegetarian propogranda. You are really full of bullshit, you must be a bullshitetarian, right? I am not even going to respond to these stupid claims.

Damn, I made a mistake, it's not 200kg, its 200lb.

According to the New York Times, the world’s total meat supply in 2007 was 284 million tons. Since Americans eat an average of 8 ounces of meat every day – or over 180 pounds a year – this means that if the entire population of the world switched to American meat-eating habits, it would require around 550 million tons a year. How could we double our meat eating supply sustainably?

The more you read into literature that isn't written by mad raving lunatics, the more you will learn that if it hadn't been for eating meat, humans wouldn't even be humans today.

So take your lunacy elsewhere. There is literally no argument you can win. Because arguing that humans are supposed to be vegetarians is like arguing that there is a such thing as God. You literally have to ignore science to believe it.

If that's what you want to do, fine. Go on with your malnutritioned life. But don't spout off your bullshit to us trying to convince normal people to join your cult.

That's fucking hilarious. You actually equate people who choose a healthier lifestyle (and in their minds, more ethical) and diet of fruits and vegetables to religious ignorant bullshit.

And you say if we didn't eat meat we wouldn't be humans beings today.. OH fucking please. Don't be as stupid as to tell me that was the only factor. Back in the day we used to rape, pillage, kill other tribes, pushing natural selection and the domination of our own species.. WE WOULDN'T BE WHERE WE ARE TODAY, IF WE DIDN'T DO THAT SHIT EITHER! And is that shit still applicable today? FUCK NO!

If you're going to claim that vegetarians live a "malnourished" life, you're gravely mistaken. What the fuck kind of image do you have in your head? That vegetarians look like the starving Ethiopian kids with the bloated bellys walking around? A well-balanced vegetarian diet is among the healthiest you could eat.

Read some ACTUAL literature instead of calling me a bullshitarian.

"Vegetarianism is considered a healthy, viable diet. The American Dietetic Association and the Dietitians of Canada have found a properly planned vegetarian diet to satisfy the nutritional needs for all stages of life, and large-scale studies have shown vegetarianism to significantly lower risks of cancer, ischaemic heart disease, and other fatal diseases.[30][31][32] Necessary nutrients, proteins, and amino acids for the body's sustenance can be found in vegetables, grains, nuts, soymilk, eggs and dairy.[33]"

Please prove how a properly balanced vegetarian diet is detrimental to one's health. Otherwise you're the one spreading shit, not me.

People have eaten meat for as long as we've been humans. We aren't gonna stop because some animals are suffering. Guess what, they end up in our bellies whether they go out peacefully or not.

not even gonna qoute the wall of text but.

meat is delicious. chemicals in meat make meat cheap. meat hasn't killed me yet, and meat won't kill me. how you make meat cheap and affordable justifies how meat is made.

so fuck off vegatarians. and those who think organic food 'tastes' better. fuck you all for telling me what 'tastes' better, whats next? green is cooler then blue? piss off.

believe it or not, even though meat is blasted with chemicals that aren't too good for us.. the reality is that we have all become adapted to the chemicals

I'm only going to quote this part:

You want to disagree with the American Academy of Physician Assistants?

The Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation?

The American Heart Association?

You still want more? Still going to tell me to go on with my mal-nourished life?

All those links say is that a vegetarian diet CAN be healthy. I am not disputing that. I never did dispute that. I just think it's stupid.

If you are going to tell me that vegetarians can lead normal, healthy lives with the right amount of planning and effort, you won't find an argument from me. If you want to do that, go for it.

I never said a "properly balanced vegetarian diet" is bad for you. It's fine. You can get by just fine. If you are getting enough protein and saturated fats, it can be fine. But it's not "more healthy". And don't kid yourself into thinking that vegetarians (especially vegans) actually eat anything even resembling a proper vegetarian diet. Because it's almost impossible to do without great effort. Most of them end up eating a shitload of sugars and grains, and a ton of tofu-based products, which are probably worse for you than any nitrites added to sausages and luncheon meat.

But if you are going to spout off bullshit like "humans were meant to be vegetarians", then that is when you start looking like a raving lunatic, and I am going to call you out for it. Because that type of extreme statement (and the fact you just missed every point I made, and went off quoting from sites like CNN.com and Wikipedia) just makes you look like a moron.

And yes, vegetarianism is a cult.
