ABBOTSFORD -- Two women have collected karmic points after finding thousands of dollars on the street and turning it over to police.

The women were walking southbound along McCallum Road in Abbotsford before noon Friday when they found a clear sealed plastic bag containing what looked like thousands of dollars.

Photographs taken at the scene show the money was bundled in packages of 20s, 50s and five-dollar amounts.

The women met with police, who seized the money. The cash will be kept by police during an investigation that could reveal whether the funds were proceeds of criminal acts or from a legitimate source, said acting Abbotsford police Sgt. M. Smith.

If the money isn't claimed by a person who had it for legitimate purposes, the women can apply to keep it, he said.
