TV shopping.

Tomorrow I'm going TV shopping. I have a cabinet that is 36.5" wide so that is my max. total width. the hight can be adjusted (with a hammer...)

how big can I fit in this? and which one should I be looking at and where?

I think some models of a 37" will fit this if not all. does anyone make a 36" ? I don't see any in paper catalogs I'm going through right now.

Throw away your cabinet, you'll have way better choice in TVs.
Get TV + TV stand, if you can.

cabinet isn't moving without major room demo and re dry walling..

this TV is for my parents who will be watching regular DVD's and maybe buying an HD cable box.

no gaming and I doubt blueray player any time soon. 37 is plenty for them. the couch is only like 8' back too.

The screen measurement of any TV is a diagonal measurement. For a 37" you're probably only looking at about 30" wide, plus the bezel (I'm too lazy to do the actual math, but it's not difficult). The listed specs for any TV should include the actual dimensions - for example, this 37" Samsung lists as about 36" total width: http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...14&catid=23244

Yea you should be able to fit most 37's. I just measured my 32inch Aquos and it's exactly 31.5 inches wide so looks like and i'm just assuming by Soundy's example and mine here that whatever inch TV your buying, minus 0.5-1 inch and that will be your width give or take. If the Cabinet moving isn't an option definitely go with a 37

Never assume - check the specs! For a 37" (measured diagonally) 16:9 widescreen LCD, the actual width *of the LCD panel* would be about 32" and the height would be 18". But there's also the bezel around the screen to factor in - some may have speakers built in that add a lot of width; others may be designed for video walls or side-by-side setups and have extremely narrow bezels.

the cost of removing the cabinet would probable cost more than the tv.

I wouldn't rush into buying a TV. I would wait for a good deal. Check out redflagdeals.com daily.

IPS panel gives you better colour reproduction and viewing angles, but doesn't have as good of black levels as VA panels.

you also need to consider ventilation for your tv

my tv requires 6 inches of clearance on top for it which sucked because i didn't take that into account

visions is easy to negotiate
