: * Help ID these CAR THIEVES *

Hi everyone,

On Saturday morning these two bastards broke into my underground parking and stole my pride & joy - a '92 300ZX Twin Turbo. The guy in white was driving a black (maybe dark blue) Pontiac G5. Here's my original thread (http://www.revscene.net/forums/stolen-black-92-t588301.html?p=6579326).

Can you identify these guys?? If so, you PLEASE call either the Coquitlam Police, or if you prefer to remain anonymous, call the TIPS line...

Coquitlam RCMP, ph. 604-945-1550, File # 09-28659.
Anonymous reports (BC CrimeStoppers): 1-800-222-8477 - quote RCMP File # above.

By now I'm sure my Z is long gone, but PLEASE.... help get these guys off the street before they take another car... maybe yours!

Thanks for your help, and also for everyone's sympathetic replies in my other thread.

-Rich

Thanks for noticing that. I tried it in IE and Firefox and they work, but you are right, in my version of Safari only one picture loads. I will work on trying to fix the problem, although right now I can't tell exactly what's happening. Anyone else please let me know if you have the same problem. Thanks!

If it helps, get the strata to install a timing mechanism on the postal key. That way the postal key is only good for whenever the mail is delivered. We did that at my old condo and the hidden camera caught pics of so many ppl trying to get in the building by way of the postal key. It made a huge difference.

Maybe it's just me... but I don't think you're going to find anyone on here that knows who they are. I don't hang out with car thieves... but again, maybe that's just me?

THese are just screenshots of about 1.5 hrs. of video we have (which I can't post). It shows them picking the lock to the front door, working their way downstairs, figuring out how to break the garage door and then driving out with their car behind mine. So yeah- pretty sure it's them. I wouldn't post these unless I was sure. The media may be a better way to go but right now we are working with the police but it's slow. I didn't think anyone would recognize them but usually people don't advertise they're thieves and sometimes people from your past reappear in unusual ways...

Looks like Rich's car has been found!!!!

Holly & Dustin spotted it on a flat deck in Richmond Wednesday morning. They started to follow it, and the truck tried to out run them! Idiot, like you can outrun a twin turbo Z!

They called the police, who promptly showed up and arrested the driver!

From the outside, it looks like the car is mostly unharmed, hopefully the same is true inside!

Nice work Holly & Dustin!!!!! Power of the internet bitches!

Well, they broke into the building, disabled the garage gate, broke into my gf's car (parked beside my Z), and then stole my car... so I would think they should be convicted of at least one count of B&E, several counts of vandalism, and of course, grand theft auto. These guys knew what they were after, and knew how to get it so I'm sure they've already got long rap sheets. Apparently theft of a vehicle worth over $5,000 carries a max penalty of up to 10 years in prison. They may be charged with CCC 335(1) Taking motor vehicle without consent; that carries a maximum 2 years/$2000 penalty. Even two years behind bars would make me smile. :D

also curious to know what security did the car have?

The car has an alarm system with starter kill, proximity sensors, and a paging remote... and more in the future.

Ha ha yeah it was me and Dustin that found it he was driving me home at 2:30 Am abd we were going east on Westminster highway and all of a sudden we see this
van towing a 300 behind it on a flat bed and we were like oh cool 300 abd then about a
block later I was like hey we should turn around an check the car about (love the 300zx wanted to see if that one was any special) so we
turn around we catch up abd then the guy runs a red light turning left on number 5 road so we were like ok what ever maybe he is a shit driver so we wait for it to go green and then we catch up the van stops in the middle of the road so we stop abd keep a bit of a distance we look at the car and was like wait a second ...OMG that's the stolen 300 so we call 911 and then the van starts moving and taken every turn possible so we follow obv and this starts going for about 5 mins with the turning and then we starts to speed up (we are still on the phone the hole time cops are trying to find
us) so the guy turns on number 5 road again and just starts rippen it east on Westminster he was going about 160 and were still following the guy abd then coming north on number 6 a cop rips out in front of us turns on his lights and the guy in the van runs for 2 miles before he pulls over...and now I'm sure you guys know how the rest of the story goes lol .......

An update for those of you who have followed the saga thus far:

I still don't have my Z back yet, though it won't be long now. The Richmond RCMP have been holding it for fingerprinting but yesterday (Sept. 14th) they finally finished. Their "Ident" unit is waaay backed up - it seems the criminals have been busy in Richmond lately. Fortunately they were able to get some good prints, especially from the driver's side window. Now that they're all done, ICBC will be bringing the car back to Coquitlam so their adjuster can check it out to see how much damage has been done. As I have not seen the car myself since this whole thing began I don't know its current condition. The RCMP tell me it looks fine on the outside other than the missing center panel. I'm hoping the panel is actually inside the car and the thieves just took it out so they could remove the front license plate. Inside the car... who knows. Hopefully they didn't destroy things too badly.

As for the arrests... The Richmond RCMP arrested the van's two occupants at the scene - one male and one female. I don't know whether or not the male is one of the thieves, but the RCMP tell me he is a "chronic offender" so hopefully he'll get more than just a slap on the wrist. The Richmond RCMP's case is separate from the Coquitlam case: Richmond is dealing with the "possession of stolen goods" aspect, whereas Coquitlam is dealing with the theft itself.

Coquitlam is currently reviewing the video surveillance footage. We have lots of it, including video of them breaking into the building and also inspecting the gate to figure out how to disable it. I hope the RCMP's video techs can enhance it enough to figure out who those guys are and go bust 'em. Obviously I'll press charges if they can find 'em. Can someone please tell me why, with the current state of technology, all video surveillance systems yield such crappy quality video?? I bet a lot of thieves just walk due to poor evidence. No wonder they didn't even bother to hide their faces from the cameras.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who kept a lookout and also to those who helped spread the word quickly... and especially to Holly and Dustin for going way above & beyond. I hope to get my Z back in time for the DNBC Show & Shine this Sunday. With or without it, I'll be going so see you there!

HD video takes up a lot of space, and not all the security companies are willing to invest the money to have petabytes worth of storage for servers or blu-ray burners (Casino Royale) Also I think they need to archive them for a certain amount of time, further adding to the storage problem

my prof told me that ppl are working on a new disk (don't remember the name) which can hold around 580GB. This is 10times more than what a blue ray disk (50GB) can hold.

HD takes massive amounts of space and security cameras aren't checked often. High end security systems like that in modern casinos and most larger banks are of high quality and cost a ton on video storage space alone.

Personally, I don't know why they don't record at at least DVD quality. With about $1000 worth of hard drives and some Drobos, you could keep up to a week's worth of video with no problems.

Good to hear your car is recovered and that folks on RS were responsible! The internet is for something other than pornography! Hope they give the thieves a good while in the slammer. If not, call on the RS beatdown crew for some vigilante justice!

Update: After Richmond RCMP finished fingerprinting the car (they got good prints!) they turned it over to ICBC. The car was pretty dirty but I could see that the thieves had done some minor paint/body damage. I say "minor" because there aren't any big dents or anything, but they did cause some scratches on several panels, scuffed the air dam pretty good, ripped the door moulding off by the driver's side window, caused a small dent in the t-top edge, and caused an outward dent in the center of the hood - They must've left a wrench or something under the hood when they slammed it. :( So no major body damage but lots of minor stuff which will result in several pieces being repainted. And, of course, they broke the plastic off the steering column, ruined the ignition switch, and somehow bent the steering wheel.

For some reason they removed my fuel filter and replaced it with a generic Fram filter (physically larger, so not a great fit). In the back of the car there was an empty bottle of octane boost... Since they had the car for four days, I really wonder how much they beat on it before it was recovered.

My Z is currently at a shop being inspected & repaired. Stay tuned.

P.S. Still no word as to whether or not the driver of the van was one of the thieves that (allegedly!) broke into the building and (allegedly!) stole my car. Note I've taken down the pics of the thieves because nothing has gone to trial yet and I don't want them to come after me legally (or otherwise!).
