i thought it was always legal to import MR2s and GTOs, because we had the canadian version here (dodge stealth was the GTO equivalent)? or did i miss something?

The government changed the bumper laws a few years ago so it is now legal to import cars like the evo 8 and 9's, VW R32's, and the MRS.

Car's on the not allowed list like the Elise and Exige and 91-93 SE-R sentra's are still on the not allowed list since they were not allowed to due to non-bumper related reasons.

OP. Even with an Evo, you are not going be beating that GT-R.

curious...majority of ppl

which one would u prefer

EVo/ STi??? drop everything and ignore the Evo being more rare, lets say they were selling it since the 90s in canada

personally i always been a EVO fan over STi

stock for stock since the past decades EVO has always been better in the performance category/speed than STi, but STi is more mod friendly with minor adjustment for instant power over EVO. Not saying the EVO cant get power

the few people i know who used to have EVOs said they ultimately sold them because of either too many expensive breakdowns, or the car just beat them up too much for daily driving :(

those that i know who have gone from an STi to an EVO say they wanted something more hardcore.

myself i have very little real-life experience to go on. i did get a brief ride in a stock 07 evo on the interstate in WA and i thought those highway expansion joints were going to break my back or drive me insane with all the rattling inside the car :o

the one i rode in was an evo9. the others were older. best to search the mitsu forums... all cars have their issues, and subaru isn't problem free either.

thats not a scam dude. its for real.

last time i checked, craigslist has 3 or more evo's advertised. one is that white one. i think i know who's selling it. nice guy. anyway, the other two are evo 9's. a dealer is bringing them in.

you guys should see more evos coming in from the us. the CAD is doing really good so importing one is really do-able.

haha you actually bought an ISF? are you still trying to beat your buddy's GTR? hahaha just get a new girl already.

Evo major problem is the tranny but the engine is just too damn reliable

I love sti too i drive an EVO whats with the hate? differences for each car.

ugh sorry my comments are being construed as hate towards the evo... it's not! i like the car very much and if i had an opportunity to own one i would give it a try (i used to own a "boring" wrx ;) ).

but i have never been in the current model. dealerships won't allow test drives without deposit w/intent to buy, so i only have magazine articles to rely on :(

I dont think there are any MAJOR tranny problems with the evo unless you drive mad everyday and have a mass amount of aftermarket power. Stock w/ exauhst intake, you know the minor typical mods.

josel_atr

one problem in the evo 8 or 9 is the clutch.

oem clutch is known to break down premature-ly. so if you get an evo and decide to mod with the stock clutch, it will die.

i know because i need a clutch replacement at 28k miles. i think the first owner of my car used to have bolt on mods before i bought it. that why it went.

other than that, im loving it!

In America, they were called the MR2 Spyder. MR-S is the JDM name.
sorta gutless, but they still pack a decent punch since they weigh slightly under 1000kg.

There isn't any problem as Blood said unless you are going to mod it over 400 + hp then the 6 speed MR would likely blow faster than the 5 Speed because the 5 speed was built stronger. Many evo owners from states blew their tranny up because basically too much power for the tranny can handle, but the engine is FINE. So well built motor failed tranny...

But don't get the confusion as the 6 speed is bad, at the end it depends how you drive your car. If you don't rev match and do kick out often then the tranny will have a shorter life etc....

What about the dual clutch system in the Current EVO X, any problems? since its kinda like an automatic tranny

currently the power the SST can handle in the stock form is 330-350 pounds of torque, anymore then the fluid will boil when actually eat the up the clutch plates on prolong driving. The solution to this is to either install an extra fluid cooler or actually change the clutch, but no one has replaced the clutch on their SST yet.

Well a 2.5 L engine and a 2.0 L of course the STI would pull harder with more TQ

which gen EVO has tranny problem?,, and what kind of problem?

early gen usd evo VIII (03-04) has very weak stock clutch and if u buy from state 99% has been beaten the shit out of the gearbox. Not to mention the easily blown transfer case problem...(i think around 06 Evo IX they start equipping launch limiter (1st gear @3000rpm) to solve this problem so pp can't blown up their transmission launching at 5000+rpm) All the evo VIII, IX, MR owners i've met in US, autox , track or drive like you stole it, one way or another. I'll advise pick up an Evo X instead....

p.s. 03 VIII are especially problematic

LOL. No, it's not that one. It's another bone stock 07 STI.

And for the record, evo's make more power easier than the sti. Also the evo 9 engine is superior to the evo 8 engine. If you're afraid of pushing the transmission, send it back to shep trans for a ~$1000 upgrade that will make it hold 600-700whp all day no problem.
