I thought I'd bring this up here since, RS was where Sigg water bottles was recommended to me.

It has been recently discovered that old Sigg Aluminum water bottles inner coating contains BPA. Sigg is offering a voluntary exchange program, to a new bottle with a new liner.

DAYUM... i remember seeing so much about those SIGG bottles that were supposedly BPA free...

To me anything with a lining is somewhat sketch... Stainless Steel is the way to go if you want something that is "safer"

Believe it or not, give it enough time and money, a scientist will prove that typing in bold and red font will give you cancer as well. GG.

SIGG bottles were never advertised as being BPA free.

SIGG bottles were never advertised as being BPA free.

It was implied that they were, by the omission of the word BPA-free or the statement they had BPA in them even though they didn't leach BPA. Customers are just pissed off that they were made into morons... and some people are just using this to get a new bottle to replace their old ones. :haha:

Try exchanging your bottles locally first.

Fuck everything gives you cancer now a days. I dont know whats the big deal about it. Im still using nalgene bottles. Its not going to do anything unless you like leave shit in it for prolonged periods of time in a certain heat.

having BPA in the liner is different than leaking BPA. As far as I know, Sigg bottles never leaked BPA into the contents.

Does anyone know which of the local retailers will be participating in the exchange program if you don't have the receipt?

^ +1

and I dont think that the ones with the old liner are that old, I got a new SIGG when everyone was going crazy and I still have the old liner and its less than a year old!

I agree with this, and in addition to not getting the exchange done, the new EcoLiner has been known to peel from the mouth of the bottle.

i dont understand what the big fuss is about. cell phones are supposed to give you cancer yet every single one of you uses a cellphone. microwaves are not good for your health and everyone uses those. And everybody is worried about a water bottle??

Whole Foods and London Drugs are the only 2 places I know of for sure that will exchange them. They are FREE to exchange.

London Drugs - will exchange only if the model you are returning was sold by them before. They will check on a list to see if they sold it before.

Whole Foods - will exchange any body regardless of where it was bought.

When exchanging you can pick any design, probably while supplies last, and the same size as the one you are exchanging. I went to Whole Foods the other day and exchanged a whole bunch of bottles that I had.

*SIGG no longer makes the really small bottle, so if you bought one of those you get the next size up free.

Hope this helps.

the whole BPA issue is just hyped up by the media and the gov't policy makers.

Only when your polycarbonate bottle is under high pressure or temperature will the content become a BPA xenoestrogen (mimics estrogen and can lead to cancer). Even at that, the dose you might get from your water bottle you wont be able to see the effect.

Remember when they said using pop bottle to carry your water was bad? many years back? That's when people started getting Nalgenes. I'm still using my 8 year old Nalgene bottle..I laugh at all the new SIGG bottle cause I just knew in a few years the media will find something "bad" about these bottles too and everyone's gonna switch over.

Sigg bottles are overpriced. The opening is so small you cannot even clean them properly. I'll still stick with stainless steel thermos bottles.

Why would an aluminum bottle need a liner?

You guys should use Platyplus bottles (http://cascadedesigns.com/platypus). I have 0.5L and 1L versions and they work great. BPA free liners, and the bottles can be flattened and rolled up when empty. Plus, they weigh next to nothing.
