so say if a laptop dies, from file corruption... say windows (bad enough that safe mode doesnt even work). but you have shit on there. how do u get it out???
oh and the optical drive is dead if that matters so it can't read any discs.

i assume you need to buy a 2.5 inch enclosure and stick the laptops HD in there and plug it into another comp, take all the info out and that's it right?

any 2.5 inch enclosure works? or what? anyone wanna recommend me one or tell me the correct way to do this?

the last laptop I opened just used reg sata cables on it. I pluged the laptop drive into the desktop using the desktop cables.

no need for incloser just sit it somewhere

older laptops needed adapters to IDE.

bood CD would have been easier... USB cd rom would work too.

What kind of laptop is it (make/model)? Can probably find out from the specs if it's a SATA or an IDE drive.

Like johny mentioned, if it's SATA you can just plug it into someone's desktop computer if it has SATA. If it's IDE, then you'll need a converter since a laptop IDE and a PC's IDE isn't exactly pin compatible.

As long as the drive itself isn't dead, you should be able to pull your data off there.

Enclosures also work, but I find them pretty slow. If you've got a big drive, it could take several hours to pull the data off there via USB.

According to Toshiba's site (http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.grp?section=1&group=223&product=7211), it's a SATA drive.

You have anyone you know that has a fairly new desktop PC? Just have them plug it right in to their PC and transfer the files you need over top their machine and burn it onto a DVD or another portable HD.

Then grab a SATA cable and plug it into your motherboard along with power.

You should see your laptop drive as another drive in Windows Explorer. Copy what you need off there onto your new PC and either format or replace the drive (if there's physical damage on the drive)
