http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Expendables_(2010_film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Expendables_%282010_film))

The Expendables is an upcoming 2010 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_in_film) ensemble (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ensemble_cast) action film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_film) directed and written by Sylvester Stallone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvester_Stallone). Filming began on March 28, 2009 in Brazil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil), New Orleans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Orleans) and Los Angeles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_California) and is expected to be released on August 22, 2010. "The Expendables has a seventy million-dollar budget," says Stallone's co-star Dolph Lundgren (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolph_Lundgren),[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Expendables_%282010_film%29#cite_note-0) "and it's an old-school, kick-ass action movie where people are fighting with knives and shooting at each other." The film pays tribute to the blockbuster action films during the 1980s and early '90s, as the film includes action veterans from those decades (such as Stallone himself, Dolph Lundgren (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolph_Lundgren), Arnold Schwarzenegger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnold_Schwarzenegger), Bruce Willis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Willis)).

HE'S 63!!!

official site (www.theexpendablesmovie.net)

old news but i didnt know, Jean Claude Van Damme turned down an offer to be in the movie:
You can’t really have a group of 80s action heroes without the muscles from Brussels turning up but unfortunately Jean Claude Van Damme has thrown a no to Stallone in turning up for the film, which is a real shame, it’d be just as good to his face added to the mix with all the rest of the fist throwers in the film – but that ain’t going to happen.

Best bud of Van Damme, Sheldon Lettich (director of 80s greatness ‘Double Impact’) recently gave a bit of info on the matter explaining that...

"Apparently, Sly was pissed too. Sly made the offer personally. They spoke on the phone for a half hour or so. JC apparently gave Sly the explanation about following a new and different career path for himself now."

http://www.popeater.com/2010/01/06/steve-austin-broke-sylvester-stallones-neck/

Sylvester Stallone (http://www.popeater.com/tag/SylvesterStallone/) got so into a fight scene with Steve Austin (http://www.popeater.com/tag/SteveAustin/) while shooting 'The Expendibles' last year that he broke his neck, resulting in "a very serious operation afterwards."

Speaking to FHM magazine, the 'Rocky' icon revealed how intense the shoot went: "Man, it was seven guys, kicking each other's ass, one guy tougher than the next. No joke, our stunt guys were begging for mercy. Actually, my fight with Stone Cold Steve Austin was so vicious that I ended up getting a hairline fracture in my neck. I'm not joking."

He added: "I haven't told anyone this, but I had to have a very serious operation after wards. I now have a metal plate in my neck."

The movie, which Sly scripted and directed, revolves around a group of old-fogey mercenaries on a mission to topple a foreign dictator. It features some of the biggest names in action, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willil, Mickey Rourke and Jet Li. The young pup in the flick is Jason Statham, 26 years Stallone's junior.

It also stars Brittany Murphy, who died in December.

Stallone told the magazine that his cast maintained high intensity throughout the making of the film, in theaters this August.

"Man, those guys were up for it. They got out of bed at 5.30am just to shoot a small five-minute scene," he said.

some of you have too high expectations!

i expect this to be a fun and non-stop action type of movie, sorta like the transporter movies, iffy story maybe? who cares, i just wanna see fighting and shit blowing up

if you want a deep story and great acting, go watch a drama

I'm going to just assume but I don't think anyone is expecting an acadamy award winning movie with an awesome script and top notch acting. I think everyone expects guns, violence, shiet blwoing up and it being entertaining. When people are talking about the hype and how it might end up sucking they mean just that and that is that it might not be that entertaining and not really as badass as we hoped. It wouldn't be the first time a movie had a lot of hype only to lack in action and be totally lame. Just my 2 cents and personally I can care less if this movie sucks cause I'm watching it for sure because really how can you not?

westcoastgsr

I'm going in with low expectations. Remember we were all kids when we watched "classic" actions movies and they seemed sooo good back then. I've watched some of them again and man they are cheesy (minus a few like Predator which IMO is a classic)

Go in and turn off your brain...and enjoy the action and tons of shit blowing up.

Just watched the 1:30 show at Guildford. Empty theatre ftw :)

I will say though some of the actors were more or less extras. Bruce Willis had less than 5 minutes in this entire film, and Arnold Schwarzenegger even less. Both had pretty ambiguous roles that were not clearly defined, but the good news is that it didn't interfere with the plot.

Caught this Sunday night at Coquitlam. The audience looked like dropouts from UFC, LOL! Anyways, the action in this was top-notch but the dialogue was TERRIBLE, and caused the movie to grind to a halt whenever something wasn't blowing up or getting shot full of holes. Fortunately, the movie was 80% things getting blown up or shot full of holes, so I had a great time! One cool bonus - with all the action movie heroes on the screen at once you really got a good idea of who was still in shape. IMHO, Jet Li and Jason Statham looked the most polished (Statham REALLY kicked some ass) and Lundgren and Stallone have lost a step or two over the years, Couture was pretty much useless and Crews was good times. I'd give this a 5/10 as a movie, but an 8/10 on the enjoyment factor. ** Fingers crossed for a sequel - Maybe with Brock Lesnar and the Rock for sheer craziness. ***

Academy moment - Mickey Rourke. C'mon, that guy has gooood acting!

Stallone's face couldn;t move because of botox, Lundgren is just.... brain dead.

I wanted more Terry Crews. He should done the robot dance while Shotgunning

Couture... yeah, needed more development.

Eric Roberts.... sigh... u know the only saving grace with this guy is that he was in DoA movie with some hot chicks and the beach volleyball scene (Sarah Carter droooool!).

The dialogue in this movie is good in some parts. I'd give this movie 7/10 based on the action scenes, the funny dialogue between Jet Li and Stallone('My life is so difficult, hahah) and Mickey Rourke's scene with Stallone. Rourke show his good acting when he talks about the "man's soul" and regret about not saving a person's life when he had the chance.

Awesome action scenes! The variety of weapons and fighting in the scenes make this one of the bloodiest action films this summer. The A Team cast of characters look tamer compared with these bad ass mofos.

i thought it was a decent movie.

what I found funny:

Jet Li spoke better english than Stallone... i'm like wtfff, there were a few times I was like... i didn't realize I was watching Rocky.

Jason S did a pretty good job, very neutral and Terry Crews had a few cool scenes with this crazy ass gun.

Action was decent actually, all was good EXCEPT the last scene when austin was beating up Stallone. Somehow the cut scenes there were just crap.

I did enjoy M Rouke's role in it, I didn't like the part where he was just a tatoo artist but his monologue about the girl he could've saved was actually really good acting AND dialogue but the freaking director (stallone) just sucked ass on capturing that scene.

watched it yesterday. Apart from blowing shit up & body parts everywhere, the story just sucked.

Decent movie, was hoping for the same amount of blood and gore as Rambo or the same amount of profanity from a movie like Bad Boys though.

For a Stallone flick, this was actually pretty good. Yes, the plot is very minimal at best and, yes, the acting could have been better... but let's face it -- this was an action movie through and through. It's not designed to win an Academy for acting or screen writing. It's a pure adrenaline flick that unites a bunch of action stars from the 80's and 90's and combines 'em with a couple newer action stars. I liked the fact that this movie had everyone from Schwartznegger to Li to Statham to Crew, partially because it saves me from having to see half a dozen other movies just to see 'em. :lol

I loved Rourke in this movie; he's always been one of my favourite actors and his performance here just blew everyone else away. I wish he had a bigger role in the action scenes, but I guess that's how his character was supposed to be -- the "wizened old retiree" that shows the characters the true path to follow.

Overall, I'd rate the movie a 7/10, purely based on the awesomeness of the actor lineup, the action, and the fact that there hasn't been much in the way of good action movies this summer.
