SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Motor Vehicle Safety Act to include prohibitions against the manufacture, importation, sale, lease, operation and release after repair of motor vehicles manufactured after January 1, 2010 if they are not equipped with a speed limiter that is engaged and set to a maximum speed that is not greater than 150 kilometres per hour.

Should set it to 110km/h.

Agreed. Unless you're at the track, there is no need to go faster than this.

I get passed by doucebags all the time at night going waaaay faster than they should... little doubt in my mind that while there are "aerodynamic improvements" made to their vehicles, they are still running stock brakes which don't do squat when they need to stop in a hurry.

I loved it when I saw one idiot pass me at a horrendous speed thru the Cassiar tunnel one night... only to see his POS Prelude smashed head-first into the wall before the bridge, once I got there a minute later. He didn't seem too impressed at that point... but he deserved what he got. Lucky he didn't take anyone else out.

Should set it to 110km/h.

What about for those of us who frequently use the Coquihalla? The set limit on that is 110km/hr, though it's not like people never go even a few clicks faster than that to pass someone...

impactX

People who are going to remove the limiter are going to do it regardless of what speed it's set at... and people who don't need to remove the limiter don't need to travel faster than the speed limit on public roads.

I agree to all of the above people who said that there should be a cap at around 110-20 KM/H You don't need to even go that fast, regardless you're on highway or not. If you desire a faster speed then just take it off yourself but I'm staying away from you. I sense that in the future where all cars with be GPS equipped. By doing so the satellites will automatically limit the car's speed. For example, if you're on the highway and the limit is 90km/h, the satellite will sense your car's location along with the associated speed limit and will tell the on board computer to limit the car to that speed.

Anyone who even says "Yes" to this needs to be shot.

It's not like everyone speeds WAY past the limit.
It's called using common sense, and those who fail to do so end up with thier car smashed up on the barrier.

With that said, It'll cost about $20 to get the limiter removed easily. (with a fancy switch)
Sure, you won't be able to see how fast you're actually going, but there's way around that.

Remote switch, 2 wires, 4 solder connections.

But if you wanna get fancy and see how fast you're going without hitting the limit, it gets a little fancier than that.

It doesn't matter if your "WAY" past the speed limit or a little over... your over the speed limit. view it anyway you want, it's still against the law. If you have a vaild drivers license you should be using your common sense while on the road for both your safety and others (at all times).

The only reason people should be saying "No" to this is cause its a waste of money. It's not that bad of an idea. But someone will crack it.

You know what?
I'm all for it If I were a normal daily commuter.

I drive the speed limit, I rarely speed since gas is murder on my car.
But if it "limits" my car from it's potential when I want to test it on the track That's kinda bullshit.

Please no GTR ecu bullshit that takes off the limiter when you're on the track.

I was born a HUMAN. I was raised to test my limits, and break them. I refuse to conform to the general consensus because I'm a MAN. I am a Man with common sense. I believe in Darwinism and whatever the fuck those Church people believe in.

Tkaing my factory speed limiter is taking away my pride, soul, and dignity. I refuse to be sheltered, and I expect the same respect that everyone else in Europe gets. No drinking limits, and no speed limits on certain highways. I believe in paying the cop to get away from a ticket. I believe in attempting to kill myself by going way faster than the car should from the factory. I believe that China will take over the world.

Because I'm a man. I am Chinese Born Canadian.
Taking away my speed limiter is taking away my freedom.
So I say FUCK YOU to whoever agrees to this bill. We need more Burnouts (fuck Yeah) and less Commuter grocery getters that barely hit 150.

I have a 4 Liter V8 that was designed in the late 80's and was electronically limited to 260 (before I took it off). I expect my future cars to do more and better than that speed.

Because I am a Man. And I need the feeling of almost killing myself.
Otherwise, I would drive a Corolla.

A lot of trucks & SUV's already have factory limiters at 150km/h. I know my father in law's Ford Escape cuts fuel at 150. But it shouldn't be MANDATORY on performance cars.
If this bill goes through, It's more incentive to never buy a new car.

You guys are probably too young to know this but back in the 1970's the speedos of cars were topped at 85 mph...take a look at some cars of that era. Nothing new. IF it ever goes ahead then speed limiter bypass kits will be on sale before this gets printed on paper.

Jeffield
09-17-2009, 08:16 AM
Personally, I do not think this would pass... many people will argue their way out of this like actual emergency or because its a track use car...

Like all of our cars we already have a Speed limiter... but for my car I can add a PERFORMANCE PACKAGE that deletes the speed limiter...

ALSO

do an ECU FLASH that takes it away as well...

The law wont pass

Exactly.. Some of the speed limits make no sense.
Take for example. I live in Surrey. 144 st has a speed limit of 60 km/h and is a residential area. Then you turn onto 72nd which is a 4 lane road and they have the speed limit set at 50. Same with 88th and 96th. All major roads and all of them 50 km/h.

also gaglardi way, the start of it going up from como lake is 50km/h, then the rest of the way its 60. if you're not going 80km/h up and down you're going way too slow.

who ever set these speed limite is a fucking moron

surrey off hwy 1 152nd i believe? i think tats wat its called...or 104? outside guilford going to king george/surrey place that route is 60km speed limite. Why is it different than any other city routes? thought 90% of the city routes are 50km speed limite. And its two lane only

barnet hwy is one of the most fucked up route ever. U have two fucking lanes, yet in the morning as well as afternoon the right lane is in effect for HOV? and its on the right? wtf

the street behind my house has two fucking lanes, yet barnet hwy has.....ONE LANE? WTF :rolleyes: go figure. Technically u cannot pass if a stupid slow mofo decides to hog the lane in front of you. Because than you would have to enter the HOV lane ( on the right) which bang instant ticket material for you to pass the dumbass than move back in.

HOV should only be in affect when you have enough lanes to begin with, than fucking set up the HOV. U do not just slap in the HOV and give everyone else one single lane to drive. Wat the fuck is up with that.

US highway makes wayyyyy more fucking sense. 100-120km speed limite. Here?? 80km-90km? fuck might as well as make it 60km for hwy and 40km in city> i will support that bs if they decide to lower it.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

well coming down SFU is pretty fucked up, about 15 years ago i remember it used to be 80km, than fucking idiots cant drive shit and started dieing like flies. So they lower it to 70km, than dumbasses are still dieing like bugs so now they lower it to 60km coming down SFU. how the fuck do u drive 60km coming down that hill? by the time u get to the buttom of the hill i bet every single cars break pads would be done if not overheat.

yes keep on lowering it, 50km limite NEXT coming down SFU. I cant fucking wait

I've spoken to a Coquihalla engineer. The design speed was 150 km/h. 130 km/h would be very reasonable. I've driven extensively on European highways where 130 is a standard freeway speed limit and it flows very safely.

That being said I'm getting older and gas isn't likelyto get any cheaper. I typically drive speed limit in the right lane and enjoy my ride with some music. A steady 130, or more, would be murder on gas mileage.

Stupid. What about times when you have to go faster to get out of the way of something? Like while merging or changing lanes. Granted it may have been a mistake that got you there in the first place, you should be able to get out of it.

What about passing? You go in the other lane and you can't go faster than a certain speed. Stupid...

lowering the national speed limit to an all time 10 km/hr will not decrease accident rates

increasing the skill and awareness of drivers, on the other hand, will

there are in fact people who cant even negotiate a left hand turn from a standstill smoothly - have you ever seen ppl hop curbs? AND end up nearly on the other lane, doing 8km throughout the whole turn? (usually this is when shit happens, as they cant even see the other car turning right at the same time, thus resulting in the 2 parties getting shafted by ic fucking bc the next day)

in fact, take a stroll down any parking lot, and observe how many wheels are curbed, how many cars are dinged from low speed impacts. for every 1, slit your wrist with a razor. by the time you are done 1 parking lot, you have probably killed yourself enough times to cover 50% of bc's population

what Chopstick is trying to say here, is that speed is less an issue than, say proper awareness (how fast to go in a ford astro van on a rainy day with 3 shitty bald tires, 2 underinflated, 1 over inflated, on a twisty highway road, wearing no seatbelts, thinking he can stop in time if the car he's drafting decides to slam on the brakes)

just googie top gear finland, and you'll see the light

so instead of teaching retarded monkeys not to cross the yellow line

give them a book and a bannana. the retarded monkey now becomes a smart banana

you know what's really scary? half of the population is a 'below average' driver.

I agree that this legistlation is a waste of time and money. Speeders will simply disable it right away. I'd rather they spend the money on mandatory skill testing autocross for all drivers. IF you cant make it through my course in XXX seconds, you lose your licence. Now THAT would be fun.

People who are going to remove the limiter are going to do it regardless of what speed it's set at... and people who don't need to remove the limiter don't need to travel faster than the speed limit on public roads.

so whats the point of having it?

how would people race their cars at the track?

I agree that this legistlation is a waste of time and money. Speeders will simply disable it right away. I'd rather they spend the money on mandatory skill testing autocross for all drivers. IF you cant make it through my course in XXX seconds, you lose your licence. Now THAT would be fun.

I don't understand why drivers making a left turn, will inch their cars over to the right before making the turn. Same thing with right turns. They keep their cars as far left before making the turns.

I was on Westminister hwy the other night, and this Nissan Versa was going 80 km/h which I though was an acceptable speed to be behind, especially since the speed limit was 60. But everytime we came up to a side street, he would brake almost to a full stop and then continue back up to 80 km/h.

He did this at 3 streets before I was annoyed and passed him.

Even if they can drive, people make some of the weirdest descisions/choices when behind the wheel of a car.

People who do that grew up with Initial D arcade stage and the world of "eraser" turns. =P

But think about it, it does make some sense. I am not saying you should go as far left as possible and sideswiping the adjacent car though.

If you are hugging the curb and turning right, you have to turn the steering wheel so much more and make a much sharper turn. Hoping your rear wheels will not hop the street corner and damage those nice rims you got. X.x

Also, I am totally against this bill to have a speed limiter. Instead, ICBC should do as Chopstick has said, have a much more intense and thorough driver licensing program that is MANDATORY.

and fuck the shortcut if you have a license from China, you can get Class 5 immediately. We all know those people bought their Chinese licenses.
