hopefully this is the right section to post.

i just bought something at FS and the guy at the department i was looking at said the item was at cost and he cant go any lower on price, however when took that item to the check out and i asked another employee, he gave me a $12 discount off the price of $100. and the strange thing was i just asked the checkout guy for a discount and he just typed a random number into the computer and asked me if this was good enough :haha:

so yea im confused about how these discounts work, if u just ask and ask till they give u one or what

I got this coupon from BB and you save $10 off on any purchase over $50. Too bad I have no use for it. Hopefully I will need to buy something before it expires on at the end of the month haha

When they say, they can't go any lower...thats a lie.

computer shows the cost price and the regular price. They can keep giving you a discount to a certain point, but they make less commission.

I think it depends on the item's margin and they will look it up on the computer. I don't think there's much discount on computers but on stuff like Monster Cables you may get a lot off. I got a dishwasher down from 600 to 470.

i thought FS and BB no longer operate on a commission basis so they say theres no sales pressure or something

Future Shop is commision.
BB is not commission.
This is what I read at Red Flag Deals.com
I find things are cheaper at Future Shop for the same item when I look online.

WTF? They give discounts to customers.
Haggle them enough and they most likely will. Accessories for anything are usually marked up in the hundred percents, always try to get a discount on those.

skyxx
09-17-2009, 05:37 PM
^ I know that. I'm just surprised they would give discounts. That's all....Should be against employee code but whatever.

Future shop does offer discounts ... sometimes
I would know, I work there

As stated above it all depends on cost.
Some items such as ...
Gaming systems, computers, and Apple Products (ipods, mac's etc...) to name a few have very little in terms of mark up thus no room for a discount.

Usually, people buying a single item will not get a better deal, for the most part ...
the more you buy the better possible "deal" you can get

wuuhoo
09-17-2009, 07:49 PM
so your tell us that if we go in and keep bargaining, we eventually get a discount ? haha wow i never knew you can do that. Always thought you had to pay the full price at these places

I think iPods are marked up pretty high? My brother who works at the Best Buy head office said that the new iPod Touch 32GB is $220 through the employee pricing, although he has to get it shipped to the office. That's like fucking 90 bucks worth of savings versus regular after taxes.

^hm interesting. dosen't seem right usually the mark up on ipod is 3-10% ish
I havent been to work in a week, I guess i'll check it out tomorrow :D

I'm assuming the cost drop might have been an error ? , its happen's sometimes.
If you look back, when Futureshop has "customer appreciation sales" Ipods are always left off the usual 10% discount given
They do make a profit, but as most electronic sales go profit is not made off of hardware

Unless they recently changed their system.
BB employees make commission on warranty!

by recently i mean within a year.. so i might be out dated...
and if i am, sorry.
but one year ago, i know they were making commish on warranty. because Milan the Broadway Store Manager (now works at head office) told me that all BB employees get commish on warranty.
And i'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about.

games?

skyxx

^ Shit. They basically don't make any money from Movies, Music and Games. At most, couple dollars. Sometimes the retail price is cheaper than the staff purchase.

^Most likely a pricing error. It's not uncommon for FS/BBY to have pricing errors ala staff purchase. If you want really cheap prices on products, buy Bestbuy/Futureshop brands. Rocketfish, Dynex, etc etc.

I thought that Monster was bad until I saw the price some guy paid ($700) for speaker cables, that was was selling for $250. wtf. it's fucking wire, when will people get it. That said Monster cables can be super cheap and look pretty good if you get then in say the surplus section at Princess Auto

no wonder when my gf bought her camera and an extra battery+case, they gave her a 2 year warranty for free.

I guess getting the sales person fired is a good thing to get a deal. haha It's technically against the company's rules to give discounts. It will show up on his sale and he'll eventually get fired. Don't expect this to happen to commonly. Either you buy this product when it's on sale or when you pricematch.

!Aznboi128
09-18-2009, 10:33 PM
^ exactly

generally it's only clearance/ open box items where you can get discounts as deep as that. Tho most of the time discounts don't happen at all

wnderinguy
09-18-2009, 10:56 PM
I would think the discount would come out of the Sellers commission ,so it wouldn't matter to the Company.

Considering the amount of retarded lowballers on RS who are the cheapest fucks in the world, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they went out of their way to get like 2 dollars off and have the sales associate fired in turn.

That's ultimately their decision. It's up to them not the buyer's fault...unless a gun was pointed to his/her face.

Unless you're buying multiple items, costing a DECENT chunk of money.. don't expect to get a "DEAL".. a couple blu-rays, people could buy dozens at a time and the store isn't making any money from them..

TV+cables+pvr/etc and you'll get some sort of discount but don't expect to go and haggle on a $20 item and get it for cheaper constantly

underscore
09-19-2009, 07:43 AM
the thing is, it may seem like a "deal," but noone at Futureshop is trying to help you, unless you already know them. So for say the guy whose g/f got the 2 year warranty for getting a case and battery, the only reason they'd do that is because noone needs an extended warranty, and the case and battery are ridiculously marked up.

!Aznboi128
09-19-2009, 09:37 AM
