It's not cancelled. It's on extended hiatus so its not showing during the mid season.
The remaining 22 episodes are scheduled to be aired... just don't know when.

Not sure if Chevy Chase had anything to do with it, but could be that NBC execs wanted it to be more accessible to the general public, less 'meta' or quirky than it had become in season 2 and 3.
Unfortunate if you ask me, though some episodes were really out there (the one with the timelines), many more were epic (original paintball episode, the law and order episode, the doc style pillow fort) that likely wouldn't have been without Harmon at the helm.

The timeline episode with the dice and pizza was great. Trying to keep the timeline thing going into other episodes was weak.
And I swear, over the last 3 season, they try to make Troy and Abed gayer and gayer. Yes we understand they are best friends but DAMN!

New season started 3 weeks ago. I was a bit worried for this season since Harmon is gone. The premiere was okay. The 2nd episode was the Halloween episode, and that was decent, and a little creepy. Last night's episode, the Inspector Spacetime Convention, felt like the Community I knew and loved. Many laughs were had, and I was pleasantly surprised with the cameo's at the credits.
The best part was
with Winger ripping off his shirt, and pretending to be Thoraxis, and every body bowed down.

Dan Harmon is going back to school. While the Community creator and former showrunner was fired following the conclusion of the NBC comedy’s third season, rumors have been swirling in recent weeks that Harmon had been asked to return to the series this year for the bubble show’s fifth season. Moses Port and David Guarascio—who replaced Harmon as the showrunners of season four to decidedly mixed results—opted not to come back for season five when NBC semi-surprisingly renewed the series for another season, and with Chevy Chase gone as well, the opportunity seemed ripe for Harmon to come back. Now Community fans have reason to rejoice, as Harmon has confirmed on Twitter that he is indeed returning to the series. Hit the jump for more.
Harmon confirmed his return to Community on Twitter
While it’s not uncommon for shows to undergo staffing changes behind the scenes, the essence of Community very much came from the mind of Harmon. Much like an Aaron Sorkin-less The West Wing , Harmon’s absence was wholeheartedly felt in season four, as everything from the show’s sense of humor to the characters seemed off. There were a couple of bright spots to be found, specifically the excellent Jim Rash-penned body swap episode, but all in all Harmon’s return is very, very good news for fans of the series.
Taking to Twitter, the creative went on to hint that he’s already staffing the show, humorously asking his Twitter followers if anyone knew any talented writers that “haven’t been hired by Parks and Rec.” Many of Community’s veteran writers exited the series at the same time as Harmon, with Megan Ganz recently making the move to ABC’s Modern Family. I’m interested to see how Harmon addresses season four when the show returns, if he does so at all. Will he claim that this most recent season was all a dream? Will he acknowledge certain story developments like Ken Jeong’s awful “Changnesia” arc or the infiltration of the darkest timeline? We’ll find out for sure when Community returns for what is likely its final round of episodes, though NBC has not announced a firm airdate for the comedy just yet so don’t expect to see it until midseason.
tl:dr - Dan Harmon is back for season 5! Oh, and Chevy Chase is gone... which I'm fine with 'cause I never liked Pierce.

Won't matter if NBC continues to step in and influence the show....last season was terrible, it felt like a extended trolling ep from Abed's mind..
I hated Pierce. Fucking asshole. The worst was during the Dungeons and Dragons episode. Fucking hated him so much. I know it's just TV, but he is seriously an asshole.

I loved Pierce in the first 2 seasons. His racist and sexist one-liners were actually laugh out loud funny. I felt his character was dumbed down in seasons 3 and 4, to the point where it was downright annoying. He only existed in the last 2 seasons so he could be ignored by the rest of the group.

This. I'm actually kinda glad it was canned now instead of dragging it on for another season (and a movie, which I highly doubt would've been made anyway) in the direction its been heading since season 4.

Just realized I only watched up to S05E06 and have 7 episodes i haven't watched yet :fuckthatshit:
We can't promise a Community movie, but thanks to one Human Being-loving company (ahem, that's Yahoo), Community will be getting revived for a sixth season, set to premiere this Fall on Yahoo Screen. Creator Dan Harmon and castmembers Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong have all signed on for Season 6.
"I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo," Harmon said in a statement. "I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, BangBus!"
"‘The reports of our cancellation have been greatly exaggerated.’" McHale said, attributing the quote to Mark Twain, joking that the other version of this quote has been wrong for years. "#SixSeasonsAndaMovie is real. Thank you Sony. Thank you Yahoo. Thank you Dan Harmon. And thank you to the greatest f%$#ing fans in the history of the human race. It’s the internet. We can swear now."
After five seasons of on-the-bubble ratings, NBC announced Community's cancellation back in May – truly the darkest timeline – but the show's hardcore fans never gave up. There's been plenty of speculation about online outlets vying to give the show a new home ever since, and now we can all wave our inappropriately emblazoned flags in victory.
Community has always been at its best when it's gone super-meta, and Abed's (Pudi) words of wall-breaking wisdom to Annie (Brie) in the Season 5 finale, "Basic Sandwich," signaled to fans that Harmon and co. wouldn't give up the fight if NBC pulled the plug: "This show, Annie ... it isn’t just their show. This is our show, and it’s not over." And then he spouted something about asteroids destroying Greendale... so we're happy that didn't happen.
But they have had their fair share of hurdles along the way: There was the behind-the-scenes drama between Harmon and original castmember Chevy Chase that resulted in Chase's exit in Season 4; there was Harmon's ousting and replacement during Season 4 after repeated issues on set and fights with the network and studio; and there was Donald Glover's exit as Troy after only a handful of episodes in Season 5.
There's no love lost between Harmon and Chase, but we weren't alone in missing Troy Barnes. A lot. At Community's PaleyFest panel back in March, Harmon said he'd try his best to get Glover back on the show, if and when a Season 6 happened.
“I'm just going to go home, kill a chicken, drink its blood, make a Blair Witch thing out of its bones, pray to every deity that I have to that if we do get a sixth season that Donald will have tired of his Donald-ness,” Harmond said at the time.
But a sixth season was seeming less and less likely as time went on. A few weeks back, Harmon seemed cautiously optimistic about the show's future while speaking at the Banff World Media Festival. Harmon praised the show's studio, Sony, for "brokering deals and making the impossible possible," but added a caveat: "I feel, just as a regular fellow looking at the whole thing, it seems so impossible to pull off. So many deals would have to be made that aren't currently made. So many contracts would have to be negotiated."
Now the impossible has become a reality. Back in April, Yahoo announced its plans to create original series, starting with the comedies Other Space, from executive producer Paul Feig, and Sin City Saints, both of which will premiere eight episodes for their first season to binge-watch on Yahoo Screen or the mobile apps.
Community Season 6 will be available in the same format, with all 13 episodes being released at once sometime in 2015. Consider it a new Greendale course requirement: Advanced TV Revitalization & Binge-Watching.
Now stop reading, throw on some Dave Matthews Band, and do a little victory dance!
