Ok, so I drive a 1.7 el 2003, the other day one of my headlights burnt out and today the second one burnt out. I noticed that I still have daytime lights and hi-beams.
For the daytime and hi-beams the light still seems to come from the same bulb as my nightlights (when i turn lights on). So the hi-beams and daytime lights work but nights dont, but they are from same bulb?

Am I not seeing some extra lightbulbs in my housing or is this normal?

yes, that's normal! time to replace those bulbs though, i hate driving when someone's headlight behind me are using high beam!

If they're still using H4's, which I think they are, those are dual filament bulbs. What that means is that there is one filament for your night lights and one for your DRL/high beams inside that one bulb. One of the filament is broken, so you do need to change your bulb.

Yup, get some decent bulbs that will last longer than 3 months. OEM Honda bulbs are made in Germany (Osram), and 'should' last quite a long time, even though they're not very bright IMO.

Sylvania Silverstars are hit or miss sometimes as i've had some burn out less than a year, and others lasting longer. And they're LEGAL for road use.

really? are nokyas that bad, quite a few people recommended them to me

i guess i got lucky. my current pair that just died lasted me for quite a while, since last years dtp for only $15
I ownt be getting hid's but also not honda stock osram ones, kinda want something a bit brighter and maybe a bit of a blue tint like 20% or less

any ideas?

I've had longevity issues with the Silverstar and the SilverstarUltra bulbs also. Haven't had issues with a set of Philips CrystalVision Ultras (http://www.lighting.philips.com/us_en/automotive/consumer_products/crystalvision.php?main=us_en_automotive&parent=79912999330&id=us_en_automotive&lang=en) and light output is identical to the SSUs IMO ,but they were less expensive .I am unable to vouch for their longevity as I'm still on my first set.

i've had bad experiences with silverstars. one bulb (9004) burnt after 4 months, the other went another 2 weeks later.
bitched to sylvania and got two bulbs for free haha. those new ones lasted about 8 months. still not happy.
and no, not a wiring problem, i've checked for parasitic drains. and currently using GE bulbs, over a year =]

I got mine at Costco don't remember $$,but they were cheaper than Silverstar Ultras.I had the SSU in my Mazda3 and the driver side burned out ,so I replaced it with the CV (the passenger side is a bitch to change so I didn't do it) and I couldn't tell the diff if I stood in front and looked toward the car.Both are definitely whiter than stock (at least Mazda Stock)

what!!??? I thought HID is the best, and its so cool to drive with it on even during daytime. Makes you see much much better in the sun light as well as night time

HID's are only good if used with the projector type headlights. Use them in a regular seat of headlights designed for incandescent bulbs and you'll just cause glare and annoy everyone else on the road.

I think Nokya's operate at a higher wattage (80W) than regular OEM light bulbs. I remember when I had my Eclipse and bought these bulbs, everyone was recommending replacing the headlight wiring harness (thicker wiring) as the factory harness had a tendency to melt from the increased draw from the headlights.

yeah... please do not use hids with reflector type headlights... you'll get highbeamed everywhere you go so it'll annoy you as well.

you know what's odd, it's been hit or miss with me as well with my Silverstars, but so far *knock on wood*, the current pair i have now have lasted about a year...i've had previous ones burn out usually around the 6months range-ish.

i tried some of those Philips 'Nighthawk' or something, and i found them to be the same as OEM basically, returned them after as i was not impressed.

for the guys suggesting, HID...the only way to make it work properly and not to blind people, is to get an actual HID Projector from a car that comes with HID lights in stock form.

ie: get yourself some Mercedes E55 projectors, bulb, ballast and ignitor, modify your EL headlight to fit the projector in there, and then wire it all up.

whether it's legal to have the correct projector, is another story though...
