In celebration of the Insurance Institure for Highway Safety's 50th anniversary, a 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air was crashed into a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu.
Visually demonstrating how far automobile safety has come in 50 years.

50 years is a long time
i wonder if its 20 years compairson....result?
^^there would be an auto eject option where the occupants of the vehicle shoots out of the car once an impact is sensed and parachutes would deploy from the seats for a safe landing

So you need those huge panoramic sunroofs on every car.

That's quite impressive.
Sad about them crashing the Bel Air, though. :(

That would suck if you were in a tunnel..

gg bel air!
is it just me or does it look like the driver of the malibu would suffer from a lot more than just minor knee injuries from that? most ppl break both legs from crashes like these. but hey, i'm no expert.

i was thinking the same thing... reminds me of the TL
Not exactly what I would expect.
Same here...I thought the Bel Air, being the beast that it is, would do better...
I'm glad I drive a car made in the 21st century :D

LOL, exactly what I was thinking when I first watched the video as well.
And imagine how safe cars will be say 20 years from now.

Wow didn't expect that, how fast were they going?
gnat.

the malibu like ATE the bel air!!!
even the windshield went flying! holy crap!
pretty impressive, however i cant help but wonder if the malibu only did so well because it crashed into something that crumples so easily. if the malibu crashed into something more solid it would have looked very different. a more fair comparison would be to crash them both against the same car. still cool to watch though
