But during a game conference in Austin covered by Gamasutra, the game's developers dropped some stats that make it out to be, well, really, really big.

To operate a game as massive as Warcraft, Blizzard employs over 4,600 staffers and uses 20,000 computer systems, 75,000 CPU cores and a staggering 1.3 petabytes (that's over 1 billion MBs) of storage. And you thought your 32 GB iPhone was cool.

The game itself, when viewed from The Matrix, would take up about 5.5 million lines of code, made even safer by the fact that the QA crew has flattened over 180,000 bugs If you were actually wandering around in Azeroth, you could find over 1.5 million art assets, from wall torches to wheels of cheese, and would have the opportunity to chat up 40,000 NPCs (non-player characters). They could then dole out 7,650 quests, which you could complete using a handful of the game's 70,000 spells.

The craziest stat of all? In the five years since World of Warcraft launched, players have earned a McDonald's-threatening 4,449,680,399 in-game rewards.

playing Wow can be somethign you can do with your friends also, I was hooked for a year and a bit lol, and I had a life before WoW came along. So with you implying that I had no life to begin with, it makes no sense to me. Simply put, the game was fun, plus staying home and playing WoW saves you money from going out.

i used to play wow alot, and every time an expansion comes out my friends sucker me back into it again. i quit during the summer times and its been much better, my grades went WAY up. went from mostly C+s to my first ever A. and i started hanging out with the locals here more

then again i only played wow to chat w/ my frnds in vancouver, it was like an expensive elaborate instant msging service. since i quit i havent had a chance to talk to any of them, not even on msn. cuz really who uses msn to chat nowadays?

WoW used to be way more addicting 5 years ago, as it was more challenging
rather now it is very easy to get better or at least on par loot by playing
as something part time. Where back then in the original WoW

You have to devote your time in to earning it, and the success is better than badge earned gear.

Anyways WoW now is no where near addictive as back then.

Iv played the game back in the day and i played twice as hard because A i had friends with me to play and B i wanted to be one of the top and first in my server to do shit. lol..

I'm pretty sure I've done this comparison before...but I might as well bring it up again. Also, the amount of time the Average WoW player puts in compared to the Average COD player puts in is going to be hugely different.

13 million users on Xbox live; probably paying for a one year subscription at $59.99 (Current price @ Futureshop.com)--> Yearly Revenue of $779,870,000.00

Compared to WoW; 14 million users paying $39.99/2 months, or $239.94 per year. Yearly Revenue of $3,359,160,000.

Keep in mind that this is VERY VERY basic math and doesn't take into account any of the operating expenses, but that's a pretty big difference.

EDIT--> I recall reading some where on a press release from Blizzard that SC2 Beta is coming next year, possibly in the Fall.
