when Steve Dinan was doing his lowermainland tour, he mentioned that the new M cars will not have high revving NA motors anymore....new M cars will be warmed over regular bimmers.....I hope the Z4 gets the V8, but I think a it will get a tuned version of the 3.0l TT....similar to the new X5M/X6M Vs X5/X6

I think the new Z4 M sport will be similar to the previous gen X5 4.8is.....more performance oriented than a regular bimmer, but not quite to M standards...otherwise I think they would call it M Roadster or MZ4....I think it would be more like the 550i with the M-tech sports pkg.

I don't think they still use the E46 M3 engine, just because the 3.0 Twin turbo performance is so close if not better, they'd probably stick in the E92M3 V8, since it's the M3 engine of the time, that'd be sick 415 hp in a Z4 *drools*

dude, shyguy is right......there is no way a 3500lbs car with 220hp can do 14 flat in the quarter. The base engine in the Z4 is the same motor in the 328i...it is a NA 3.0L motor putting out 230hp at the crank....but the one all the mags are testing is the 3.0L TT.....

Anyways, I think they need a more hardcore performance version to compete with the cayman S which is serious business on the track 300hp and Mid engine, now with PDK option in a car under 3000 pounds? BMW needs something to keep up with and just a higher power engine won't cut it, M coupe makes sense to me

Although in a way, for the price of a cayman S an M3 is just waiting to kick it's ass. hmm...

and 350z with roughly 1500kg 300hp, 270 torque it runs low 14, z4 just seems way to fast for what it is

you are right, the 225hp is the 04......not sure which yr, 06 or 07, the hp went up to 255-265hp.....

The E46 M3 is much quicker due to the pts you mentioned plus;
1) lsd
2) 6 sp Vs 5 sp
3) different rear end ratio...the M3 is a 3.64...not sure wha the Z4 is..but I believe it is 3.15....
4) taller rear tires for better traction

the Z4 seem way to fast based on the #s...but the torque # is decent.

btw, I just borrowed my buddy's 09 Z4 3.5.......the new Z4 is fucking awesome.....the mid range punch with the DSG tranny is awesome......I wouldn't buy one, but it is definitely a much more luxurious vehicle. imo it is a step up from the previous gen....

Bimmers rarely have high hp or torque #s...but what makes bimmers accelerate better than the #s suggest is due to a strong linear torque curve below maximum revs......at 2000 to 5000rpms, I am pretty sure bimmers make better power Vs cars with similar hp #s.

^ unfortunately the 04 330ci has only 225hp & 214lbs of torque...the 335i weighs approx. 200lbs more, but has 300hp and 300lbs of torque...and that is underrated....so even a supercharged 330ci would have a tough time to keep up with a 335i...hard to beat twin turbos......
