If given the choice, why not take an auto though? You've probably built up some habits that will be hard to force yourself to forget on stick
dont coast in neutral ever. actually never be in neutal. when your stopped have it in first.. down shifts are ok just dont be heel toeing. i dont think it matter what gear you turn in. my road test dude didnt really care about much. he put down his demerit sheet after like 10 minutes. oh yeah and dont keep your hand on the shifter. have them both on the wheel unless you have to shift.
It's more about being a safe and able driver at this point; well for my test anyways. Hand only comes off the wheels when shifting then it goes back, sitting in neutral is ok at a red light, I wouldn't use heel-toe because there's no need for it, rpm matching didn't cause me any trouble (just make sure to get it bang on so you don't jerk the car).
I only lost one point on my class 5 test and that was for not shoulder checking on the last corner. My evaluator refused to get in my pos rolla at first because i just bought it and it was rolling on bald tires mounted on steelies, zipties everywhere, a T50 in the hatch and a relocated horn button. Way more relaxed than an N test.
Oh and you can ask him any questions you want before the test to clear things up, you just can't once you start.
Good luck.

^^ I did it and passed with only 2 marks away from perfect and they were both for stupid things like forgetting to pull ebrake in the overnight stop and forgetting to shoulder check when pulling away from the curb (i just looked in my rearview mirror:()
I also had a guy instructor, don't know if that made any difference. I made sure to catch him up during the test, lol

A guy instructor makes ALL the difference.

I had a lady examiner, took my class 5 in a 5spd car, no issues. *shrug* Granted, that was some time ago.

i would say if you had an auto car.. use that..
it's stressful enough taking any test.. doing it in manual is no exception..
ALSO. if you're merging on the hwy.. MAKE SURE YOU ACCELERATE!!! this almost fooked me over.

yeah just rmb 2 hands on steering wheel at all times, removing hand only when u need to shift, and yeah basic N test stuff like shoulder checks and scanning mirrors.

if you have access to an automatic, i suggest you use it. some of these guys can be real jerks and you just don't need to give him any more excuses to fail you.

Passed it with a 5spd earlier this year. If you know how to drive "properly" then there shouldn't be a problem regardless of what you're driving.
not this again...just use an auto and save urself the hassle

Let's put it this way. If you have to ask, you're probably going to fail anyway.

When I took the class 5 like 6 years ago, I took it in standard. It was much easier because I always drove standard and got used to it.
