: FS: 1992 Acura Integra GS-R (DB2) ICBC Collector Vehicle Status

ayotte_dude
10-02-2009, 10:27 PM
FS: 1992 Acura Integra GS-R (DB2)

The car previously had collector plates as it qualified as a limited production vehicle over 15 years old. It also qualified because of its exceedingly good OEM condition (no mods - unlike many other GSR's out there - which sets this one apart). With my driving record (43% discount) basic insurance with collector plates was only $122 for the entire year before collision and comprehensive! Yours may be different depending on your driving record. I will provide for free some of the documents needed for re-applying for collector plates should the buyer choose to do so. Please refer to ICBC website for your eligibility to apply for collector plates. I recently took it off the collectors plates because I sold my daily driver and needed to use the car for work.

Specs:
2-Door Coupe, Hatchback

AirCared (for new owner as collector vehicles only need to pass once)
No Rust
Non-smoking driver
No Major Accidents
Service Records for past 13 years.

The car is in great condition and I've babied it since I've owned it. I've had it garage kept, used only 94 octane fuel.
Very clean inside and out. Recent clear coat makes the car shine!

Currently has 375,xxx kms. Mostly Hwy kilometers (less wear and tear than city driving).

Thanks for the interest but I'm not planning on parting out any parts.

I used to have a Black 93 Integra GS-R with 170,xxx kms and sold it last year for $5500. But this car is in much better condition inside and out than my last one even though it has much higher mileage. It runs much smoother too.

Price reflects exceedingly good condition of car as well as eligibility for collector plates.
Most GSR's are modded and aren't eligible for collector plates.

For a single car family, going the collector plate route would be a cheap way to have a 2nd car around if you only need to drive a 2nd car some of the time like evenings and weekends. Daytime use is fine too - you can drive as much as you like as long as it's not for work or school.

Updated price - $5800

collector plates which could save thousands of dollars on insurance costs over a few years.
.

Taken From ICBC.

Your collector vehicle may qualify for a lower insurance premium if you have

* another licensed, non-collector vehicle, or
* a company-assigned vehicle that's used for general transportation. (This includes a vehicle insured under one of these rate classes: pleasure, to and from work, business, farm, artisan, fisherman or delivery.)

If the only vehicle you have is your collector vehicle, it may still qualify for collector plates. However, it won't qualify for the lower, collector vehicle insurance premium.

THAT IS TOTALLY NOT TRUE AND YOU KNOW IT
! In order to save insurance on this car ,you need to have another car insured at the regular premium. So in fact you will have to pay for 2 insurances!!!
Also on collector plates you can't drive to school or work!

You should know this if you already have collector plates!!!

Don't misinform the peeps!

I stated this information on previous posts so I'm not trying to misinform. I said it was a great way to have a 2nd car for a single car household as long as you don't drive it to school or work.

So you'll be saving thousands for your 2nd vehicle.

Well, not really. I wasn't willing to sell it at that price then. Car sales are usually slow in the winter. If it was summer the car would probably sell a lot quicker and at a higher price.
The latest price drop was because I thought there was something wrong with the alternator but it's fine. It turned out that one of the battery terminals was loose but all is good now. I'd raise the price again but don't want to hear an uproar so I'm keeping the price at $4200 for now.

holy crap this is absurdly clean. I know I couldn't run it as a collector's, but if say the suspension was swapped out, and then returned to the stock form later on it can re-qualify for collector's status correct? same deal with a stereo or something?

most importantly are you interested in trades at all?

Yes, you can modify the car all you want and use regular plates. The car can be re-qualified for collector's status once you return it to stock condition.

But unfortunately, I'm not accepting any trades.

-rear bumper needs to be repainted from paint spiderwebbing

-tranny has a nasty 3rd gear grind

more things but i forget it all. i was actually kind of upset the seller did not include this in his FS ad and wasted my time.

I'm sorry if you felt your time was wasted.

I've never claimed that the car was immaculate or in mint condition or that it needed nothing. If it did I'd be asking for around five grand. I've been up front with all interested buyers when asked what's the good and bad. You made an offer which I wasn't comfortable with at the time - especially when I said I was relatively firm. If I had taken your offer you wouldn't be saying that your time was wasted.

Rear bumper always had a bit of spiderwebbing. Its just not noticeable in the photos.

Tranny grinds when shifting into 3rd only when over 3000RPM but I don't drive the car hard so it doesn't bother me as much.

Clutch is not slipping out of gear but I would suggest replacing it along with the timing belt when it's due in the next 10,000 km.

It may have felt underpowered as it was having issues with the main relay which has since been fixed.

It shows well in the photos. Nothing has been changed or covered up. It's a great daily driver. Has some small chips in paint here and there on the mostly original paint. It's not a rust bucket like a lot of them out there and the interior is not trashed. Very good condition for it's age. Just don't expect a show car.

Well, I sold a 93 Black GS-R with more issues for $5500. I originally priced this according to my last sale and believed that the savings in insurance and/or the time and money it takes to return a DB2 to stock condition to be eligible for collector plates was worth the asking price.

Your offer was $2500 when I was asking for $3600 firm. Relatively firm does not mean I'd go down $1100. Circumstances have changed and I'm more willing to sell it for less.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the clutch at the time. Maybe because I drive it pretty conservatively. I'm only starting to realize it may be on its way out.

I didn't know the issue was the main relay until after taking it to the shop. I thought it was the starter, alternator or battery which I would've replaced before the sale.

After further examining the performance of the clutch, I believe there's still a healthy amount of life left. Starts engaging with pedal around 3/4 depressed and is fully engaged by around 1/4 depressed. It's going to slip more than say a stage 1 clutch and won't be as as aggressive. Anyway, you guys see for yourself. I've only ever had about 4 people who have actually come and take a look at my car since I've put it on sale. A lot of interest and admirers but not many serious enough to actually show up.
