Best ISP for the area I'm in?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anybody know's of some website which indicates the best ISP for the area in vancouver that I am located?

OR

If someone is located in Hastings and Nanaimo area can give me some idea of what you're experiences are with different ISP's; preferrably if you've used Shaw and Telus before in the same area before. I'm actually only concerned with either Telus or Shaw since they have a net and tv package deal. The reason my question is based on neighborhood, is because I've heard that depending on how far you are from telus facilities correlates to the speed you're able to get for internet.

It's actually for my friend. He's had bad experiences with Telus in the last place he's lived at and wants to go to Shaw in his current place he just purchased. I've personally had bad exp with Shaw at my old condo and when I bought my current condo i was given one year free telus tv and internet so I tried it out and have NEVER been happier. I get steady download speeds of ~2.5-2.7MB (yes, Mega Bytes, not bits) from Steam, Microsoft, or other sites i download updates or games from (legit sites). When i was with Shaw, Youtube videos wouldn't load up even. After leaving a 2.5min video to load/buffer for 30min, only 1/3 of it would load up. I think it timed out at some point because it was so slow. I couldnt get my PS3 updates either.
And YES, I have talked and complained to shaw on MANY occasions with no result other than "Try resetting your modem and wait 30 min while we reset your connection...ok bye". One time i was told there has been numerous complaints from that area and they are looking into with no defined date as to when this will be resolved.

So I'm just trying to see what other people's experiences are in that area so my buddy doesn't have to get stuck in some contract with a crappy isp.

Thanks for your feedbacks in advance!
