Any certified Furnace Technicians in here that can repair a broken furnace?

Sorry if this is posted in an inappropriate forum!

EDIT:

I just realized that I don't own a Furnace, so my boiler and water heater needs replacement.
I'm looking for an experienced technician that can give me a free in-home estimate, preferably can speak Cantonese too, not a requirement.

Thanks!

google brand name of boiler, call the supplier and ask for a local dealer and go from there. Get it checked out first before you need a new one.

I've already gotten it checked out. I've been told that I need a replacement for both, so I need an estimate on how much it would cost to replace.

do you want to stick with a boiler? might be better off going with a heat pump which works as a a/c unit as well. I'm the wholesaler for Trane but can put you in touch with a dealer if you like to get a quote. If you planning on staying at your place for awhile you might be better off getting a tankless hot water tank. If you save money and will never run out of hot water again.

It will be more cost-effective to stay with a boiler.

Couldnt have said it better. I just hope he isnt talking about radiant heating.

Do you actually have vents or are your floors heated?

Depends.. If you are planning on staying in the same house for a while the heat pump will pay itself off. My parents got one and the gas bill went down by about $700 the first year.

Yah then it would make no sense to put in a heat pump since it would require you to put in piping and vents. Hillcrest Plumbing is good. Give them a call. My dads business deals with them a lot.

The suggestion about putting in the tankless water heater is good though.. Too bad you didnt need this stuff done a year ago. The govt was giving all sorts of tax incentives to put in more efficient stuff. Last I heard they were no longer doing that though.

I can definitely understand the gas bill going down because the heat pump is electrically driven. But what about your hydro bill? What was the savings in overall energy costs?

so if i have a furnace (nat gas) and vents. can i also get a heat pump. the vents are crap. whoever designed them put all the vents near the windows.

I just got a quote for a Tankless Water Heater and Wall-Mount Boiler installation including cost of labor for $16000.00.

Reasonable or overpriced?

The size of my home is a typical Vancouver-special.

Actually the gas bill went down by $800.. The electricity went up by $100. I just took the $100 off the $800 and called it $700.. lol

You can get a heat pump, however the vent issue is a separate issue. I think they put vents near windows for the times when most windows were not energy efficient.

They still do, but they need you to pay for $100? for an assessment first:

BC:

I think places like CR Martin, take care of the energy rebate paperwork for you.. remember you also get your taxes back if done before Feb 10.

That's pretty good. Are you running cooling on the heat pump during the summer? How's the hydro bill?

Reason for asking is I'm thinking about a heat pump as well. I don't have a furnace but i'm thinking about a split system.

Whats wrong with the boiler?

Not firing?
Firing but no heat?
Leaking?

I find it hard to believe a full replacement is needed.

yup.. it was actually really nice when I'd go visit them during the summer. It would be pretty much the same temp. all summer long.

You can save alot of money by just bleeding the system once in a while.

Check around the water heater, and look for a valve. If you pull it, you should hear water comming out. Attach a hose to the end of it, and drain it out.
Turn off the heater power, and the Water main. Bleed both the heater and Boiler. DO THIS AT LEAST once a year, or every season.

Or just bleed it from the heater until you see clean water flowing out only. Sometimes you have to bled it for a little bit before the dirt comes out.
