Hey everyone, first off, i'm a bit of a technophobe so don't flame me please,
I was wondering if there was some way that I could connect the xbox to the internet to download/update it (i'm still on the first gen OS or whatever you guys call it)

My xbox is in the basement so a long wire connecting it to my computer upstairs probably wouldn't be feasible, I have a PS3 too and the wireless works from the basement, however I don't want to shell out $100 for a wireless adaptor for the Xbox since I won't even use it that much and don't plan on getting xbox live gold.

Can i connect the Xbox to say a laptop and download it through there?
Or should I find a 200ft long ethernet cable...

I dont think thats possible, like you said you either need a really long cable or get a wireless adapter. Maybe you could temporarily move your 360 closer to your computer and hook it up then just move it back once you get what you need.

You can bridge your wireless connection and ethernet port on your laptop and then hook up the xbox to the laptop --- that works for me.

you should be able to update it via USB somehow, otherwise either move your XBox closer *or* bring your modem to your XBox.

bring your modem to your XBox.

This would be the best option if there's a phone line in your basement. I had to move my computer down to my living room to play LIVE, and since I positioned my desktop closer to the TV, a standard length Ethernet cable and a long phone cable are hooked up to my modem.

either that or, since you can't use an ethernet cable over 200ft, temporarily move the router to in between the XBox and the nearest you can get the modem/whatever, and plug in two long cables.

Can you teach me? Do i just plug in the wire? I thought about this, sounds like it could be done
