: Best body shop?

Hey guys

I got rear ended on the #1 near Surrey 3 weeks ago, and my insurance said theres $9000 worth of damage and they want to repair it. The car is a 2003 Toyota Celica.

Where is the best place to repair it in the lower mainland area? I'm out of province (from Sask as a student) so I thought I'd ask the locals. My uncle says Craftsman Collision is probably one of the better ones, but yeah.

Thanks in advance :)

An '03 celica with 9k in damage?

Screw that, I'd want a writeoff.

Do you know what the resale value on a '03 Celica with a $9000 ICBC claim is? Like 37 cents.

That sucks dude.

I would call a couple of Toyota dealerships and see who they recommend. If any of the Toy dealers in town have an attached/in house body shop I would use them.

Yeah man I know. It's really weird, I was looking forward to buying an RSX type-s.

I'll see what my dad and I think, because the resale value will be non-existant. My insurance is SGI (saskatchewan) so yeah :/

Thanks for the advice :)

I didn't get a pic far enough back but it was pretty pushed in. It was just after the bridge so I had my breaks on and he plowed me right into the car ahead of me.

A 95 Ford Windstar hit me, an old guy was driving. Go figure.

He hit me so hard he completely shifted the back end of my car so I hit the car ahead of me sideways.. You can see that with the scrapes on my bumper.

Anyways, I would want a write off for your car, not worth fixing.

Yeah my mom had one for upwards of 10 years. She just got rid of the damn thing. I always talked trash about it, so it finally bit me in the ass :D

Most people have pretty low standards when it comes to body shop repairs, so you will see lots of different shops being recommended and contradicting stories.

agree with this comment. some ppl dont know what to look for in a paint job, things like dusts, orange peels, wavy body panels and so on are things not everyone know about in a good or bad paint job.

Yes there is. Right now that's my fallback plan unless I find a better place. It's good because they would use actual Toyota parts and make sure everything is done properly, and if I complained they shouldn't have a problem with fixing it like a smaller shop would.

whatever you do, don't go to the craftsman collision across from the subaru dealership on cambie. a family member who shall remain unidentified brought his car there and.... holy crap i swear some trainee in autobody shop class could have done it better :(

if rich city, go to the one on no.5 rd (i think there is another one on no.1 but i was told not to go there):

http://maps.google.ca/maps/place?sourceid=navclient&rlz=1T4ADBS_enCA326CA326&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=rich+city+autobody&fb=1&gl=ca&hq=rich+city+autobody&hnear=Vancouver,+BC&cid=2116830364214199542

ak autoworks gets my vote as well, but the last time i was there was at least 3-4 years ago. ask for the owner walter siu.

anyway, is that car still driveable? do you need to tow it around? towing it from burnaby to richmond is going to be tough since i don't know who is going to pay for the charges (i don't know how non-icbc works). call ahead and ask how they deal with out of province insurance claims.

who did the damage estimate to come up with $9k? there is a good chance the bodyshop you choose will take it apart and say that there is a lot more damage and the estimate might end up being higher... total loss? :o

.... i'm still in awe that a mini could do so much damage to the front of a celica :(

My insurance company came up with the number, and they will tow it and get it repaired where I want. Oh and my car is lowered 1.5" so thats why I got underneath the car and hit the wheel.

Talk to your adjuster and ask them why it isn't a write off and at what point it is. Tell them you don't think it can be repaired to be in the same condition it was in, pre-crash.

I mean what was it really worth? 11-13K before the accident? And they want to repair it? That's crap!!

Yeah I hear ya man. I emailed her back asking for the value of the car but she never responded. I'll give her a call on Monday if she doesn't reply by then. Oh and I doubt it was worth even that much. I bought it for 14 two years ago (which I still got ripped off on imo)

dealt with a lot of shops before...get everything in writing if you are not sure of thier work.

tool001
10-16-2009, 01:23 PM
usually adjusters always under estimate the value of repair, cause they cant take a look at whats happening inside ie. frame. they told me my damage would be around 2-3, came out to be 5k.

Go to body shop, get estimate first before u agree to anything. if the car itself is worth 13k, not worth to spend 9-11k for fixing it.
