I just got this text message randomly.
"FWD: AMBER ALERT! 3yr old boy taken in vancouver by a man driving a '06 Mitsubishi Eclipse plate #98B351... KEEP IT GOING"
WTF is this all about? Is it real or fake? Did anyone else get it?

^ Nice it's a Hoax
if it was true, you would have heard it on the radio.
license plate is completely wrong. either its 3 letters 3 numbers, or 2 letters, 4 numbers for commercial.

A friend forwarded that text to me. I didn't make much of it since the licence plate was weird and the radio didn't announce anything.

I got this text last night.
One, they know the year, model, and make of the car - but no color.
Two, if they know year, make, model, they were pretty close - someone must have seen the driver.
Three, they have no description of the kid.

Because the most effective way to spread news to the masses is by manual text messaging.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - RCMP says it will not alert the public about an Amber Alert by text messaging, that follows a fake text message warning that's been circulating the Lower Mainland this week.
Corporal Karen Boreham with the RCMP's Provincial Amber Alert Program says any text message about an Amber Alert is likely not legitimate, because Mounties don't yet have that technology.
Boreham adds it becomes a strain on resources when people start calling 911 to see if there actually is a problem, but she doesn't want people to end up ignoring real Amber Alerts. "It does concern us in terms of us wanting to maintain a credibility with the community for a reliable Amber Alert system."
The fake text message warns a 3-year-old boy was taken from Vancouver by a man driving a Mitsubishi. Boreham recommends the message be deleted right away. She says the messages are often forwarded by well-meaning people who are only trying to help in what they think is an urgent situation.
