Hi everyone,
I have my 1993 Toyota MR-2 Turbo for sale. It is a North American specification vehicle (U.S. market originally) so it is left hand drive and being a U.S. vehicle originally means it has advantages over Canadian models. It has options not available in Canada such as power steering and it has every option available from the factory including limited slip differential, anti-lock brakes, power everything and the premium sound system (it has an aftermarket Pioneer deck now, the original double-DIN Toyota stereo stopped reading CD's as most of them do). Of course since it is a 1993 model, it also has the improved suspension, bigger brakes and all the other improvements over 1990-1992 models.
Year: 1993
Make: Toyota
Model: MR-2 Turbo
Mileage: 88,155 miles (141,048kms) as of today
I used to have another 1993 Toyota MR-2 Turbo which was hit in a head-on accident and was written off. I imported this MR-2 from the U.S. (Texas and Tennessee is where it spent its life) with no drivetrain and I have completed a ground up disassembly and re-assembly of this MR-2 using the drivetrain from the one that was in an accident. Every single piece has been removed from the body and painted by an autobody shop that has painted several award winning MR-2's and I had it painted the highly desirable Toyota MR-2 colour of Steel Mist Grey. It has the dual black and tan 2-tone interior. There is not one single spot on the car where the original colour shows, no door jambs, no trunk, no engine bay, no front storage area. The paintjob looks absolutely factory. You can see pictures of this process here:

The engine on this car is the smoothest MR-2 Turbo engine I have ever driven. I own 3 of these vehicles and I have been in countless other ones, the power delivery is absolutely seamless, the turbo pulls very strong. I personally drove this car 70km a day to/from work for 3 months after the restoration was complete to make sure there were no problems. I stand by this vehicle and put my reputation on its quality and reliability. The vehicle's title is clean, the only parts re-used from the crashed vehicle were the engine and transmission which, since the hit was in the front, were totally unharmed. The transmission is by far the smoothest of the MR-2 Turbo's that I own, it seamlessly shifts between all 5 gears as well as reverse and there is no grinding and no weak synchros. This drivetrain on this car is bulletproof. The brakes grab hard and don't let go, everything works as it should. All the factory maintenance is up to date, I do not have the receipts anymore because the engine was in the smashed car and I was so upset after the accident I threw them out because I couldn't stand to see them anymore. However, the engine had all of its maintenance work done at 60,000 miles at Chico Race Works in California... anyone in the MR-2 community can tell you CRW is one of the best shops in the entire USA for MR-2 work and the owner of the vehicle drove all the way from San Francisco, CA to Chico, CA just to have the work done. You will not have to do any major maintenance on this car until 120,000 miles (200,000kms) when it will be timing belt time again. That's many years down the road of just oil changes and a smile on your face!
Why am I selling this car? I had no intentions of keeping it... my entire goal with this project was to take my MR-2 Turbo which was written off and give it a new life in another car. I did this as a project of passion/love for MR-2's, it makes me happy to know another one is on the road because I put this work into it. Believe me when I say that I will not make a dime off of this car, between buying my written off car back, buying a shell and shipping it up, all the paintwork, all the installation work, the engine swap and all the correcting of minor things after the fact, this project has cost me a small fortune. I also love my 1994 and 1995 MR-2 Turbo's too much and they are the rarest 2 models in North America of all, so I have to sacrifice the 1993.
I welcome anyone to come take a look at it, it is just having some last few things tidied up at the bodyshop and I am installing new shocks on it this weekend, so it is almost ready to go. I hope if you are interested you take the time to contact me, you will not be disappointed with this vehicle. Test drives are welcome, but unless you are a serious buyer (no tire kickers) I will drive.
My asking price is now lowered to $10,500. No trades please, have too many cars.
Thank you for looking,
Chris
