I guess they wanted to incorporate a shift indicator and as for the red needle, it's much like the "peak" function on the Defi gauges.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nippon Seiki made the cluster for them.

ya i know its a shift indicator, but having the whole gauge change seems kind of corny i guess. and yes the peak indicator, it just seems annoying, u dont see the defis peak after every move.
